Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of research fellow in HPB surgery to start as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established, supportive research team at University Hospitals Birmingham with the aim of achieving a higher degree (MD or PhD).

Main duties of the job

This salaried post offers a well-balanced job with good clinical opportunities alongside protected research time. You would be joining an experienced, friendly research team with an excellent track record for academic output. The clinical work includes training in multi-organ retrieval and exposure to HPB and transplant theatre (no prior HPB experience is necessary). Our research group has several novel, exciting and clinically relevant research projects up and running with initial ethics and funding in place. Although the main focus of your research time will be your higher degree, this post will enable you to expand many other areas of your CV and meet other ARCP requirements in areas such as teaching, leadership, presentations, publications and teamwork.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate would be expected to take part on a 1:4 full shift rota with three other research posts; this rota supports the 1:7 SpR rota. The post is not recognised for training but will offer the opportunity to experience multi-organ retrieval and to be involved in liver transplantation and major HPB work/patient management. Candidates would normally be expected to have MRCS and currently be employed as or competing for Specialist Registrar posts. Full GMC registration is essential.
