Job summary

Ocean is a psychology-led service combining psychology and specialist midwifery in supporting women and birthing people who are experiencing moderate-severe mental health difficulties relating to baby loss and birth trauma. Ocean is a community based service, offering a range of interventions including one to one psychology, group work and indirect work with maternity services.The post-holder will support the delivery of individual and group psychological interventions across the three pathways within OCEAN. There will be opportunities to develop group based interventions in partnership with maternity services and voluntary sector organisations, alongside liaison with primary care talking therapies and perinatal services.Ocean is based in Vivienne Cohen House in Hackney, and offers support to women and birthing people across East London in the boroughs of City & Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets. You must be keen to embrace the privileges of working in diverse boroughs and have experience of working with people with complex mental health difficulties from a range of religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds to deliver psychologically informed care.

Main duties of the job

In addition to:

  1. Providing psychological assessments and interventions to women and birthing people under the care of Ocean MMHS
  2. Developing and delivering group and one to one interventions, as appropriate for the needs of the service
  3. supporting the development of culturally accessible psychological services for women and birthing people.

The successful candidate will contribute to screening of new referrals into the service, support management of the database and offer clinical supervision where appropriate.

Person Specification

Education/ qualification/ training

Essential

  • Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical OR Counselling Psychology or BACP/BABCP/UKCP accredited psychotherapy qualification
  • Registered with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist or with other relevant professional body (eg. BABCP, BACP, UKCP)

Desirable

  • Training in bereavement and loss
  • Further training in perinatal specific approaches and perinatal loss
  • Further training within systemic, narrative therapy or community psychology approaches
  • Further training in Evidence based Trauma Interventions

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working as a specialist clinical or counselling psychologist or Psychological therapist in secondary care NHS services
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of service user groups across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity
  • Experience of teaching, training, consultation and/or professional and clinical supervision
  • Experience of work in a multi-cultural setting, including working with interpreters
  • Able to compare and select from a range of intervention options, (minimum of two therapeutic orientations) based on formulation.
  • Experience of working with people who have experienced difficulties including PTSD, complex PTSD and loss at a graduate or post-graduate level

Desirable

  • Formal basic training in clinical supervision
  • Skills in working in multidisciplinary settings and knowledge of the practices of other key disciplines, professions and agencies involved in the care network, including medical, employment, social, educational, legal and criminal justice systems
  • Experience of working in a perinatal or maternal mental health service
  • Experience of working with loss and bereavement
  • Experience of working with staff teams in physical health settings, particularly maternity
