Job summary

We have an exciting vacancy available for an experienced and motivated physiotherapist with proven clinical and leadership skills to join the Physiotherapy team at the RHN. The post is primarily based in our Level 1a brain injury service, which provides intensive specialist neuro-rehabilitation and complex disability management for patients with acquired brain injury.

The post holder will work within an interdisciplinary team, providing patient centred specialist clinical assessment and treatment on our rehabilitation and disorders of consciousness pathways.

In addition to:

  • Complex postural assessment and management- including splinting, serial casting, use of Botulinum Toxin and 24 hour postural management.
  • Respiratory management including tracheostomy care and weaning.
  • Local leadership and supervision for registered and support staff team members.
  • Service development opportunities, contributing to research, strategic change and outstanding service provision.
  • Opportunities to pursue areas of professional interest to support personal, service and departmental development.

Key Responsibilities (see job description for more information)

  • Undertake the team leader role in partnership with the transdisciplinary team, conducting a regular evaluation of the physiotherapy service in the designated clinical area, evaluating all elements of the rehabilitation or continuing care programmes,in partnership with the TDT.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake a team leader role, alongside the Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist, in planning and co-ordinating the delivery of the physiotherapy service in the designated clinical area on a day-to-day basis
  • To provide supervisory support for the Senior II Physiotherapist and therapy support staff working in the Neuro-Behavioural and Huntingtons Disease services and the wider clinical area within the Physiotherapy department.
  • To demonstrate effective working as part of the Neuro-Behavioural Services transdisciplinary team, to uphold patient values and orientation towards their goals.
  • To demonstrate an awareness of RHNs objectives and values and contribute to achieving them appropriately.
  • To strive to improve efficiency and effectiveness in all areas of your work.
  • To ensure professionalism and excellent communication with staff, patients andrelatives in routine and complex circumstances, including holding difficult conversations.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualification in Physiotherapy recognised by the Health Care Professions Council.
  • Registered member of the HCPC, membership of CSP or own public liability insurance.

Desirable

  • A significant period of experience at Band 6 or above in Neurology and/or Neuro-rehabilitation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to competently carry out neurological assessment and treatment, working closely with the multi-disciplinary team to establish patient-valued goals.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage a large caseload, recognising boundaries, and seeking support when appropriate.
  • Evidence of working well in a team.
  • Evidence of participation in continued professional development including demonstrating a keen interest in neurological physiotherapy with a good understanding of the need for evidence based practice and service development.
  • Experience of respiratory management, including tracheostomy management.
  • Experience in aquatic therapy, splinting, wheelchair assessment, postural management and spasticity management.
  • Experience of delegation and supervision of qualified physiotherapy staff, support staff and students.
