Job summary

We are looking for a dynamic, flexible and highly motivated Paediatric Physiotherapist to join the Paediatric Community Physiotherapy team. This Band 7 post will be responsible for undertaking a highly specialised role in advanced assessment, developing treatment packages for children with a range of disabilities who may have complex and/or chronic presentations within the community and their social environment.

Fixed Term from 01.09.24 until 31.08.25. Working hours across 3 days

Main duties of the job

Undertake advanced assessment, developing treatment packages for children with a range of disabilities who may have complexand/or chronic presentations within the community and their social environment.

To liaise with parents, educational staff, social services & voluntary carers, to co-ordinate and support the delivery of treatments to children.

Acts as an advocate for the disabled child and their family to ensure the child has access to all services to aid daily living and quality of life - Disability Rights and Children Act 1989.

To work within the context of a multi-disciplinary teams, with joint planning and sharing of information within the confines of client confidentiality

  • Is involved in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the physiotherapy service within their own area. Maintains records and writes reports as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To provide highly specialist advice in statutory reports for children with special education needs.
  • To provide highly specialist advice, education & training relating to physiotherapy within paediatrics.

Person Specification

Experience & Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy.
  • Significant post graduate NHS experience, including paediatrics at Band 6 level.
  • Evidence of professional development, both formal and informal, with relevant post graduate courses & CPD.
  • State Registered

Desirable

  • Experience at Band 7 level.
  • Experience in supervising of junior staff and students.
  • Teaching & presentation Experience.
  • Relevant validated courses.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Goal orientated approach.
  • Evidence based practise
  • Assessment tools and treatment approaches to the client group
  • Up to date knowledge of special equipment, seating and aids.
  • Bobath training.
  • Knowledge of Orthotics.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation e.g. Children's Act, Disabled Person's Act, NSF etc.

Desirable

  • Awareness of child protection issues and procedures
  • Audit skills.
  • Awareness of Education Act and Special Educational Needs.
  • Experience in writing special educational needs reports
  • Understanding of clinical governance.

Skills

Essential

  • Good knowledge of physiotherapy in relevant area.
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skill.
  • Organisation and time management.
  • Ability to pass on skills/knowledge to others both formal and informal environments.
  • Current full driving licence
