Job summary

We have an opportunity for a Band 7 SLT in our community SLT team meeting the needs of pupils with Education, Health and Care plans. This is ideal for someone wishing to develop their leadership and management skills as a Band 7. The successful applicant will be given opportunities to improve their service development skills.

You will have:

  • Experience of and highly specialist skills working with a diverse paediatric caseload
  • Experience of supporting the evaluation of service delivery
  • Experience in developing and delivering universal and / or targeted level offers as outlined in Education, Health and care plans
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-agency team
  • Ability to work flexibly and independently where necessary
  • Enthusiasm, imagination and initiative
  • Understanding of the neurodiversity paradigm/framework

Main duties of the job

  • To lead a small team of SLTs/MTA to meet the needs of the children who come under the commissioned service
  • To contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of service delivery
  • To demonstrate highly specialist clinical skills in an area relevant to therapy
  • To lead/supervise others within your chosen area of specialism
  • To be responsible for the management of a caseload of children with developmental speech and language delays/disorders and social communication differences
  • To provide line management to junior staff and SLTAs.
  • To work with parents, carers, school staff and other agencies involved in the children's care as well as part of a multi-agency team
  • To participate in and provide clinical supervision and support as required
  • To act as a resource and support for other therapists working with children with speech, language and social communication difficulties.

The Children's Therapy team consists of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists. Therapists work in multi-disciplinary/multi agency teams across the borough of Wandsworth.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree / Post Graduate Diploma in SLT
  • Registered with Health Care Professions' Council
  • Evidence of Post Graduate CPD and reflective practice

Desirable

  • Completion of relevant short courses / certification eg. Elklan, word aware, etc.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the National Curriculum and SEND Code of Practice
  • Extensive knowledge of appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to lead, develop and motivate others
  • Proactive / innovative approach to service delivery and development
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in all situations including those which are challenging

Experience

Essential

  • Relevant post graduate clinical experience
  • Relevant post graduate experience in clinical speciality of paediatrics
  • Experience of effective multi disciplinary and multi agency working
  • Experience of developing, interpreting and implementing local and national policies

Desirable

  • Experience of providing line management to junior therapists
  • Experience of working with children 3 years and older in a specialist setting (ie. Resource Base or Special School)
