Job summary

The Nurse Specialist will provide support for the patient and family from diagnosis through treatment and throughout the cancer journey. Using advanced communication and psychological assessment skills the CNS will aim to assess and alleviate the psychological distress for cancer patients and their families, including identification of need for onward referral to other agencies and disciplines as appropriateProvide education and specialist advice to patients, their carers and staff on the specific care and treatment for the specialityActs as a valuable resource for the multi-professional team.Set standards of care, influence the work of other professional groups and act as a change agentWork as a core member of the MDT supporting the cancer pathway to improve the patient experience

Main duties of the job

Acts clinical expert within a specialised field as a role model demonstrating high standards of quality care and providing clinical leadership to others.

Provide expert clinical advice and education to patients promoting a culture that supports self-management and health and wellbeing.Acting as key worker the CNS will use and apply advanced technical knowledge of cancer and treatment within the speciality to oversee and co-ordinate services, personalise the pathway of care for individual patients to ensure the complex information and support needs of patients and families are addressed.Delivers specialist education and training to other professionals involved in patient care
