Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for the appointment of a Senior Clinical Fellow in Respiratory Medicine, at Northern Care Alliance (Salford Care Organisation).

This is an established 12-month full-time Clinical Fellowship post that offers the opportunity for the successful appointee to develop and learn subspecialty-level skills in the management of respiratory diseases. The successful candidate will provide clinical sessions in Respiratory including inpatient and outpatients, as well as participate in the delivery of pleural procedures, Bronchoscopy, and Thoracoscopy services.

There will be no on call commitments with this post; however, participation in the on- call rota can be discussed with interested candidates.

Salford Royal is a major teaching hospital of the University of Manchester School of Medicine. There are well developed sub-specialty interests within the Department of Respiratory Medicine.

The respiratory unit consists of 11 consultants with a range of special interests. The range of services include the diagnosis and management of COPD, asthma (tertiary centre), cough, interstitial lung disease, sleep medicine and sleep disorders, non-invasive ventilation, lung cancer, bronchiectasis and the newly set up pulmonary thrombosis and hypertension services. As well as dedicated clinics, subspecialties offer regular MDTs locally and regionally. Candidates are encouraged to participate in these and address their learning needs enhancing their clinical experience.

Main duties of the job

To support the middle grade cover for the respiratory services at Salford Royal Organisation.

The post is designed to enhance the care of patients with Respiratory diseases in Salford, therefore the newly appointed clinical fellow will be required to work with an established team to maintain and improve the hospital based service for patients with chest diseases through their input into the inpatient and outpatients care we deliver to our patients

Person Specification

Qualification/Training

Essential

  • Full or limited registration with the General Medical Council

Desirable

  • ALS Holds MRCP (UK) or equivalent

Experience, skills and knowledge.

Essential

  • Experience in General medicine at middle grade level. Commitment to CME Good clinical skills Evidence of good written and verbal communication skills

Desirable

  • Ability and enthusiasm to teach medical undergraduates and Allied Health Professionals Participation in audit

Disposition

  • Interest in Respiratory Medicine. Evidence of working well as part of a team
