Job summary

We are looking for a motivated Dietitian with experience of paediatrics and neonatal care, including TPN, to join the paediatric team within Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust which comprises of 5 other Paediatric Dietitians and strong administrative support. We are a very supportive team, have regular team meetings and CPD sessions/opportunities and have good links with surrounding Trusts and paediatric teams.

This is an excellent opportunity to consolidate paediatric skills, work with MDT colleagues in a variety of settings and develop clinical and leadership skills. The post holder will cover paediatric out-patient clinics, our paediatric in-patient ward and our neonatal unit, with the opportunity to further develop clinical and leadership skills

We are an integrated acute and community Dietetics Service, covering Buckinghamshire. Our teams are friendly, supportive and place staff well being and professional development as a high priority. We have B and C placement students with opportunities for our staff to lead or support students on placement, as well as great CPD and training opportunities for all our staff

Main duties of the job

To be an autonomous practitioner and act as a source of clinical expertise in the areas of paediatric and neonatal care.

  • To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team providing high quality, evidence based dietetic service to a complex case load of patients on the paediatrics and neonatal unit

To provide specialised assessment, treatment and support of paediatric inpatients and outpatients, and provide cover for other specialist dietitians on an occasional basis

  • As one of the paediatric Dietitians, working closely with the Paediatric Dietetic Team Lead and Nutrition and Dietetic Service Manager to plan, provide and evaluate the paediatric dietetic service.
  • To support the clinical and professional development of junior Dietitians, Dietetic support worker and student dietitians.
  • o work as part of the paediatric multidisciplinary team training other healthcare professionals and contributing to the development of the service

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Degree or post-grad equivalent in Dietetics
  • HCPC registered
  • Evidence of CPD
  • post-grad masters module in paediatric dietetics or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Advanced communication skills
  • leadership or management training

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Ability to demonstrate sound and in depth knowledge and application of up to date evidence based, nutritional screening and support
  • Evidence of leadership skills, including managing or supervising others.
  • Ability to plan and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to generate written communication which is relevant, concise, accurate and legible
  • Evidence of excellent verbal communication skills at all levels
  • Accurate anthropometric
  • Able to deal with distressed, difficult or abusive clients.
  • Able to respond to unpredictable work patterns and interruptions
  • Ability to complete allocated projects and meet deadlines
  • Competent user of IT equipment & basic software (email, word processing, data input etc)

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential

  • An appropriate degree recognised for registration with HPC
  • Registered with HPC
  • Documentary evidence of Continued Professional Development
  • British Dietetic Association Member
  • Paediatric BDA Group member
  • Post graduate specialist training in paediatric dietetics [equating to a module of masters degree] or equivalent knowledge through experience

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Broad, varied and in-depth experience of clinical dietetics Including :
  • Previous general clinical experience and detailed knowledge of paediatrics
  • Knowledge of nutritional needs and nutritional assessment of hospital in-patients
  • Skilled in calculating nutritional requirements
  • Skilled in the development of nutrition care plans in hospital.
  • Skilled in assessment for enteral feeding, enteral feeding products, equipment and regimens.
  • Accurate anthropometric skills
  • Ability to plan and deliver education to patient groups
