Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within University Hospitals of the North Midlands (UHNM) as a Medical Examiner.

We are really excited by this development and we hope to recruit someone who is too, so that together, guided by clinical skill and ability to demonstrate our core values at all times; we can make a real difference.

We are looking to enhance the current team of Medical Examiners by recruiting to an additional sessions (PA's) per week. This will enable us to extend scrutiny to incorporate non-acute deaths occurring within the local community.

Main duties of the job

Medical Examiners scrutiny includes reviewing and discussing proposed causes of death with attending practioners and the bereaved, this involves carrying out a proportionate review of relevant medical records (electronic and paper). A further element of the scrutiny process, is to identify potential leaning in line with the Learning from Deaths framework. The job description and person specification attached are modelled from the Royal College of Pathologists in line with a national requirement to develop a method for reducing inaccuracies in death certificates and achieving greater confidence in learning from deaths.

We invite applications from suitably qualified clinicians who are naturally curious, data friendly and ready to lead the way in developing our understanding of the impact of the care we provide both in an acute and non-acute setting. We will provide you with the support to do this through provision of resources to include an office base and administrative support for running the service.
