Job summary
This
is a one year fellowship for a senior trainee from Africa to gain experience in
clinical cardiac electrophysiology.
This
appointment will be based at the West Yorkshire Heart Centre, one of the
largest tertiary cardiac centres in the UK, serving a population of over 3
million. There are 6 state of the art Cardiac Catheter laboratories, with over
2000 PCIs (including 24/7 primary PCI) over 900 invasive
electrophysiology/cardiac ablations and in excess of 700 implantable device
procedures performed per annum, making the West Yorkshire Heart Centre one of
the highest volume units in the UK. The TAVI service is largest in the UK
outside of London.
The
department consists of 6 EP Consultants who also implant devices and perform a
full range of electrophysiological procedures including VT ablation, AF
ablation and SVT ablation.
Training
opportunities will be tailored to the successful candidate, taking level of
experience and training needs into consideration.

Main duties of the job
The post is mainly catheter lab based but will
include ward ward, outpatient clinic support as well as participation in
clinical governance, audit and research.

Job responsibilities
The
Centre
The
post will be based at the Yorkshire Heart Centre. This is the largest tertiary
cardiology unit in the UK. It serves a tertiary population of approximately 3
million across the West Yorkshire region. From a team of 23 full or part time
Consultant Cardiologists, six Electrophysiologists offer a full invasive and
non-invasive cardiac electrophysiology service including ablation of
supraventricular arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia,
complex cardiac rhythm management device insertion and pacemaker and ICD lead
extraction. CARTO and NavX 3-D mapping systems, cryoablation and circular
ablation technologies are all available. Currently approximately 900 catheter
ablation procedures and 150 ICD procedures are performed annually.

The
Post
The
post is available full time and is funded for one year. Applications for
part-time training will be welcome. The emphasis will be on training in
clinical electrophysiology with participation in audit, departmental research,
ward and clinic work. Training and supervision will be offered in all aspects
of invasive and non-invasive cardiac electrophysiology by the LGI EP
consultants.

is a supernumerary clinical post with a major clinical component. It is expected that the working sessions will
be based on the following plan:
Cardiac
catheter lab : 7 sessions
Ward
work : 1 Session

and Audit: 1 sessions
On-Call
No
routine on-call responsibility is included. Opportunities to contribute to the
CCU registrar on call rota will be available on a locum basis.
Salary
The
post will be remunerated at the ST3 Level/MN37.
