An exciting opportunity has arisen within the evolving Clinical Research Unit (CRU) at the Bristol Eye Hospital. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic individual as a Research Nurse.

The post holder will be in contact with a broad professional group, as well as members of the public and research sponsors, therefore excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills are paramount.

We are seeking a flexible, motivated team player with considerable nursing experience and an interest and enthusiasm for research.

Experience in ophthalmology and/or clinical research would be advantageous. The post holder will be an integral member of the CRU senior team, involved in the line management, support and training of staff as well as more complex trial developments, including early phase and advanced therapy trials.

We are looking for a B5 or B6 Research Nurse, depending on experience. There is scope to increase to a B6 within 12months of appointed, dependant on achieving relevant clinical research competencies.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with the Clinical Research Unit Manager and as a member of the senior team, the post holder will support colleagues and researchers throughout the research process, including the delivery of clinical aspects associated with our protocols.

Identifying, screening and assessing participants in accordance with the protocols and in conjunction with other members of the clinical research team is an integral part of the role.

Bristol Eye Hospital is the leading provider of ophthalmic services in the South West of England. These cover the full range primary, secondary and tertiary care, with regional clinics serving populations of up to five million people.

The Clinical Research Unit specialises in ophthalmic research and we cover various specialties within Ophthalmology including Medical Retina, Uveitis, Thyroid Eye Disease and Glaucoma. We work on a wide range of different studies including phase I -IV. We have a core team of Research Nurses, Senior Trial Coordinators, Trial Coordinators and Assistant Trial Coordinators and also work more widely with Consultants, Fellows, Optometrists, Imaging Staff and other support departments across the Trust such as Pharmacy.
