Here at Hope House Children’s Hospices, Our Purpose is to ensure that every local child with a life threatening condition has access to professional care, which improves the quality of their life from the point of diagnosis.

We have an exciting opportunity for a new Health and Safety Advisor to join our team based in Oswestry, working 22.5 hours per week, on a permanent basis.

Main duties of the job

Your role as Health and Safety Advisor is to help us deliver Our Purpose through developing a positive Health and Safety culture, where our children, families, staff, volunteers and supporters feel protected and their safety is maintained.

Your focus will be to provide concise, balanced, and pragmatic Health and Safety advice to the retail management team. You will also ensure that we operate a structured and compliant Health and Safety system designed around concise and coherent policies, procedures, and risk assessments, safe systems of work, training and compliance audits.

You will need to be able to travel across our retail estate throughout Shropshire, Cheshire and Mid and North Wales on a weekly basis, and for this reason a Full UK Driver’s License and access to a vehicle is required.

In return, our Health and Safety Advisor will receive a competitive salary of £29,697 - £35,301 (FTE) per annum.

About the Health and Safety Advisor role:

Your role as Health and Safety Advisor is to help us deliver Our Purpose through developing a positive Health and Safety culture, where our children, families, staff, volunteers and supporters feel protected and their safety is maintained.

We are looking for a Health and Safety Advisor who:

  • Holds or is working towards Technical Membership of IOSH TechIOSH (or equivalent)
  • Has excellent organisational, communication and IT skills
  • Can build relationships and influence at all levels
  • Can draft concise and accurate risk assessments, procedures and safe systems of work
  • Can contribute towards the development of policies and systems
  • Can interpret technical law/ best practice and apply this through concise, pragmatic & balanced advice/recommendations
  • Holds up to date knowledge of emerging H&S trends and best practices
  • Has an understanding of HSE Management Systems and UK H&S legislation
  • Can bring retail/service industry health and safety experience to the charity

Essential Qualifications

Essential

  • Currently holds or is a student working towards Technical Member of IOSH TechIOSH within 12 months. (Could also be through NEBOSH affiliative membership to IOSH.)
  • Demonstrable experience in a health and safety advisory role

Desirable

  • Experience of managing H&S services in a retail environment (Desirable)
