Job summary
We are seeking a Senior Practice Nurse for a part time position to provide core practice nursing services, probably over 3 days a week.
Experience of working in a Primary Care environment is essential for this role and we are ideally looking for a candidate with at least two years experience.
The role will work clinically with patients as well as support a small team of registered clinicians. Leadership experience is not essential as training and development will be provided for the right candidate.
Salary is commensurate with experience.

Job responsibilities

- To oversee other junior staff where necessary.
- Job Responsibilities:
- To provide and maintain high standards of evidence-based patient care and work with practice policies and procedures.
- To establish effective working relationships with colleagues and other agencies concerned with patient care to ensure a high standard of individual patient care is co-ordinated and maintained.
- To co-operate and participate in practice audit and research as appropriate.
- To maintain accurate and comprehensive nursing records including computerised information, in accordance with practice needs, policies and procedures.
- To work within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and adhere to its principals.
- Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
- Follow agreed clinical protocols liaising with Senior Nurses or GPs as appropriate
- Following training & assessment wound management including compression bandaging
- Following training & assessment cervical screening
- Basic sexual health screening including swabs
- Following training & assessment to provide travel immunisations to patients as needed using PGDs
- Following training & assessment routine immunisations e.g. flu/ shingles/pneumonia , using PGDs
- Following training & assessment other injections, e.g. Depo-Provera contraceptive injection/ depot injections used for mental health/ Vit B12
- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
- Requesting pathology tests, e.g. swabs, urine, stool and sputum samples
- General health promotion work, e.g. weight management and smoking cessation with sign posting to most appropriate health care practitioner within the practice
- Other tasks will include:
- Maintain general tidiness within ones own working area within the treatment room
- Participation in administrative systems in the practice
- To work collaboratively with the nurse manager and the leadership team to support the smooth running of general nursing and continuous improvement
- Attend and participate in any practice meetings and other meetings when required.
- Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.

Experience
Essential
- Experience of working within a nursing team
- Experience of dealing with vulnerable patients
Desirable
- Experience of working in primary care
- Experience of working in a GP practice
- Experience of working in ED
Qualifications
Essential
- GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
- Qualified to NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care
- Registered Nurse
- Current registration with NMC
- Evidence of clinical updating and CPD.
Desirable
- Qualified in Phlebotomy
- Qualified to NVQ level 3
- Diploma in Long Term Condition/s (preferred but not essential)
