Job summary

We have an amazing opportunity for an experienced nurse to join our world leading team at St Bartholomew's Hospital. The post holder will deliver high-quality nursing care to patients with arrhythmia and those with implantable defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation (CRT) devices.

To have excellent communication with patients and their families, providing support and expert knowledge either in an outpatient or inpatient setting.

To have excellent interpersonal skills with your colleagues, within a small team of specialist nurses as well as the wider team with other members of the internal and external multidisciplinary team.

To work autonomously with your own caseload of patients with arrhythmia, to provide patients with a consultation in a nurse led clinic either with diagnosing new conditions or providing follow up post ablation clinics.

To work autonomously and collaboratively in Consultant-led arrhythmia clinics.

To be able to attend the ward and provide expert advice, knowledge and counseling to patients undergoing emergency procedures for implantable defibrillator devices also providing support to nursing staff on the ward.

To be a part and be an active member of the newest development of the service, Nurse led cardioversion service.

To undertake regular teaching, training, and mentorship of the nursing team in the provision of care for arrhythmia and device patients.

To actively participate in and promote research and service improvement and development

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Plan, manage and complete episodes of care, working in partnership with others and delegating and referring as appropriate
  • Cardiology experience post registration
  • Clinical and operational management experience

Desirable

  • Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist experience or evidence of working autonomously

Skills

Essential

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills . Formal presentation skills
  • Evidence Decision-making skills Management of patients with complex needs

Desirable

  • Communication of difficult messages to patients and families

Knowledge

Essential

  • Up to date in all current issues related to professional nursing practice and health service management
  • Expert Knowledge of the current guidelines for the management and treatment options of heart valve disease.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nurse
  • Diagnostics skills and the ability to interpret ECG, imaging, and laboratory results

Desirable

  • Advanced physical assessment skills qualification - (Clinical Reasoning course)
  • Specialist Courses in Service Centre / Cardiology
