Job summary

The neuroendocrine unit at the Royal Free is world renowned and cares for the largest number of patients living with the condition in Europe. The Specialist nursing team iswell respected in the team and play a pivotal role in the care of the patients.

The successful candidate will lead the service in addition to providing specialist nursing advice and support for patients with an actual diagnosis NET and when NET is initially suspected, from their period of investigation, diagnosis, treatment and possible transition into palliative care.

The post will incorporate the Lead CNS role dimensions of expert clinical practice, education, leadership, management and research. The post holder will be required to work with clinical, operational, information and administrative staff across all levels of seniority within the acute Trust.

The post holder will be required:

To liaise with all key members of the Neuroendocrine multidisciplinary team toadvise and support colleagues in the delivery of specialised patient care acrossprofessional boundaries.

To work autonomously to deliver specialist clinical care appropriate to the needs ofthe patient group and based on principles that are research based and enhance thequality of patient care.

To undertake nurse led clinics and to be responsible for excellent standards ofnursing care to patients through the planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating nurse-led clinics and services.

To line manage the Lung clinical nurse specialists within the Trust.

To lead and support with specialist nursing knowledge the development, and implementation of programmes of nursing care for individual patients and the client group as a whole.

To contribute to the facilitation of the planning, delivery and evaluation of care pathways for a designated group of patients.

To contribute to training and education within specialist area.

To promote an innovative and progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through reviewing the evidence base and embedding this in practice through engagement in research activities. To act as a visible role model and expert practitioner.

  • Substantial experience in a senior nurse operational role in an acute NHS setting
