Our Children's Urology service leads the way in the care of children and families living with urological conditions , we work collaboratively with our Bladder and Renal Specialist teams as many children require the service of all three specialties.. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinical nurse specialist to join our specialist multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work in the outpatient and day-unit setting to provide holistic care and diagnostic services to children with a broad spectrum of Urological and Bladder conditions. The successful candidate will work one clinical shift on the renal / urology ward per 4 week rota to maintain clinical skills and facilitate collaborative working

It is desirable that you will have experience of conducting diagnostic tests and are able to catheterise children.

The children's Urology service is dedicated to supporting staff to develop and progress, and this post will present the successful candidate with numerous learning opportunities.

Job responsibilities

  • Independently manage a group of patients within the specialty whilst working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering specialised individualised and personalised direct patient care

Demonstrate appropriate practice and specialist advice in the assessment,planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. This includeshistory taking, physical examination and the requesting of agreeddiagnostic procedures/clinical investigations

Support and enable patients and carers to make informed decisionsrelating to their treatment and management.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training and CPD
  • BSC/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience
  • Post registration qualification in (appropriate area of speciality)
  • Mentorship Course

Desirable

  • Leadership qualification (e.g. LEO)

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients/clients and give relevant advice/information to patients and relatives.
  • Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues.
  • Evidence of involvement and leadership in teaching and mentoring learners
  • IT skills- able to use digital platforms to access patient records and document

Desirable

  • able to catheterise patients

Professional/ Statutory Registration

Essential

  • RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality.

Desirable

  • Evidence of post registration CPD

  • Demonstrates the application of trust values and behaviours in practice

Experience

  • Post registration experience within relevant speciality
