Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a suitable applicant to work in close collaboration with the dermatology department at LTHT and primary care in Leeds. This is a 12 month fixed term hybrid role working 3 sessions per week. This exciting post will enable the chosen individual to enhance the delivery of the tele-dermatology skin cancer pathway across the city.

Within LTHT, the post will allow flexibility for the chosen individual to develop their own portfolio. It is expected that there will be commitment of a minimum 3 full-time sessions per week in this role.

The GPwER will be employed and hosted by the Leeds GP Confederation for the duration of the one-year post, with clinical supervision directly provided by MDT Skin Cancer & Tele-dermatology Lead, Dr Walayat Hussain. Operational/admin support will be provided by LTHT.

Key Relationships

Actively works towards developing and maintaining effective working relationships between Primary Care and Secondary Care, aided by the existing Primary Care contacts and relationships fostered by Leeds GP Confederation.

Fosters and maintains strong links within Primary and Secondary Care.

Explores the potential for collaborative working and takes opportunities to initiate and sustain such relationships.

Uses educating and influencing skills to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

Within primary care, the GPwER will aim to reduce the variability in the quality of referrals via the established tele-dermatology skin cancer pathway, address primary care barriers to concordance and provide bespoke education to improve GP diagnostic skills in recognising benign and malignant skin lesions.

It is expected that the GPwER will act as a direct liaison between primary and secondary care and audit fast-track skin cancer referrals being sent to LTHT, with the support of a dedicated LTHT administration post. Throughout their role, the post holder will be expected to provide regular feedback on potential quality improvements relating to all aspects of the pathway.

High quality clinical leadership maintaining high standards of professionalism throughout.

Senior clinical oversight to ensure that work to improve tele-dermatology is being done in the most efficacious way possible and that there is consistency across the city.

Provide support in line with the 2WW skin cancer tele-dermatology pathway and support Primary Care engagement with cancer screening dermatology services/stakeholders.

Provide educational support and mentorship for GP practice staff.

Development of relationships with senior level clinical and practice management staff in primary care, ensuring buy-in to this work to improve the quality of tele-dermatology referrals.

There will be no line management responsibility within this role at present, but working closely and effectively with other team members at both LTHT and within the GP Confederation is essential.

Support for the primary care teams to increase quality of teledermatolgy referrals.

To plan and organise own workload, including support for members of the citys multidisciplinary team (MDT), PCN, practice team, Local Care Partnerships, patients, ICB, etc within their scope of practice.

Ensure the effective and efficient use of resources within their own sphere of responsibility and identify and highlight similar within the work of cancer screening processes within organisations where appropriate, seeking advice and guidance where required.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified GP, practicing within Leeds.
  • Accredited GPwER in dermatology (with postgraduate diploma)
  • Relevant professional qualification or equivalent.
  • Good working knowledge of the LTHT 2WW skin cancer teledermatology pathway.
  • Experience and aptitude in skin cancer diagnosis including dermoscopy.
  • Unblemished registration with GMC or other relevant body.
  • Evidence of continuing professional and personal development.

Desirable

  • Post graduate degree in a relevant subject or equivalent
