Nursing associates actively contribute to a patient's health and wellbeing through the delivery of holistic care, a whole-person approach which considers, and equally values, physical, psychological and public health needs, learning disabilities, social, economic, spiritual and other factors in the planning and delivery of care.

Main duties of the job

o To work within the Nursing associate parameters of practice and deliver high quality, compassionate care to patients in the inpatient unit.

o To work under the direction/delegation of a Registered Nurse, in accordance with an individual care plan, with a focus on promoting health and independence

o To carry out specific delegated clinical and care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency, under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or other registered health professional

o To proactively monitor, and prioritise patients care, making autonomous decisions within agreed competencies about patient care and seeking support from colleagues as appropriate

o Work in an effective and organised manner demonstrating excellent time management and organisational skills to effectively deliver person-centred care for an allocated group of individuals

o To contribute to the development of staff within the service through training and supervision

1. Qualifications, training, knowledge and experience

  • Registered Nursing Associate (NMC, Level 5

2. Communication and relationship skills

Provide and receive routine information requiring tact or persuasive skills Provide advice, instruction or training to groups, e.g patients/ colleagues / students/ families. Provide and receive complex, sensitive information; e.g. test results; receives sensitive patient/client-related information. Have the ability to communicate information regarding the patients medical condition and individualised treatment programmes in an easy to understand, reassuring way, enabling and motivating where necessary, this includes the patient, family and carers Communicate with patients/clients and carers, using empathy and reassurance and where there are barriers to understanding learning to manage these accordingly, e.g. learning disabilities or language Communicate sensitive information effectively and improve communication using a range of strategies with regard to person centred care, duty of candour, equality and diversity. Report to appropriate registered care professional information received from the individuals, carers and members of the team Report any accidents or incidents and raise any concerns as per organisational policy Ensure clear, concise, accurate and legible records and all communication is maintained in relation to care delivered adhering to local and national guidance Ensure ability to manage electronic records system taking cognisance of need to protect access (ID, passwords, swipe cards) Ensure all patient related information is treated sensitively and adhere to the principals of confidentiality at all times Attending and actively participating in unit/service meetings Working collaboratively with other team members, colleagues and services Contributing to team success and challenge others constructively

3. Analytical and judgemental skills

  • Exercise personal responsibility and work independently within defined parameters of practice, taking the initiative in a variety of situations and performing a range of clinical and care skills consistent with the role, responsibilities and professional values of a Registered Nursing Associate.
  • Continue to develop clinical reasoning skills to aid judgment in monitoring patient condition, comfort and wellbeing using analysis of a range of possible factors
  • Ensure that only those activities for which competence has been achieved are undertaken without supervision and that recognition is given to the impact and consequences of practising outside capability

4.Planning and organisational skills

  • Plan and manage competing demands of job role.
  • Work in an effective and organised manner demonstrating excellent time management and organisational skills to effectively deliver person-centred care for an allocated group of individuals
  • Deliver effective care following treatment plans determined by the Registered Nurse or registered care professional and provide feedback on progress against the plans

5. Physical skills

  • Use skills of manual dexterity and manipulation of clinical instruments and equipment
