arisen for a dynamic and motivated dentist/doctor to join our department at an
exciting time in our Trusts future. The Department offers a supportive and

The vacancy is
within the Oral & Maxillofacial department for a Trust Doctor equivalent to
DCT to commence September 2024 for a maximum of 12 months. The successful
applicant will have access to training study days.
Main duties of the job
The Service Role
From a clinical perspective these posts will
participate in the cross site junior trainee rota. The junior trainee rota is compliant with the
2016 junior doctor contract averaging 48 hours per week.
Duties will be based primarily on our Pinderfields
Hospital site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to
patients on all our sites.
These roles will enable the post holder to take
supervised responsibility for patient care and consolidate the skills they have
learned at medical/dental school. As the post holder gains experience they will
remain under clinical supervision but take on increasing responsibility for
patient care. In particular they will
begin to make management decisions as part of their progress to independent
practice.
During their tenure the post holder will further
develop their core generic skills and contribute more to the education and
training of the wider healthcare workforce.
At the end of their tenure the post holder will have begun to
demonstrate clinical effectiveness, leadership and the decision making
responsibilities that are essential for the next stage of their careers.

An Introduction to the Division/Specialty from Mr. Neil
Horisk, Speciality Doctor in OMFS (TPD in DCT)
The department of Oral & Facial
specialties is based at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield. The team consists
of 5 Consultants in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, 2 outreach OMFS Oncology
Consultants, 3 Consultants in Orthodontics, 1 P/T Consultant in Dento-Maxillofacial
Radiology, 6 Specialty Doctors in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, 1 Oral
Surgery StR, 1 OMFS StR, 2 P/T STRs in Orthodontics, 7 F/T Dental Core Trainees
and 4 P/T JDFCTs in Oral & Maxillo-Facial Surgery.
The full-time junior dental staff gain experience
in dento-alveolar surgery under local anaesthetic/IV sedation/general
anaesthetic, complex maxillofacial trauma, orthognathic surgery, skin cancer
and oral oncology along with the full range of general maxillofacial Surgery. A
multi-tiered on-call service between Wakefield and Leeds is provided. The appointee is resident on-call for
Pinderfields Hospital with a 1:7 full-shift working pattern. Routine and acute
duties are at Pinderfields General Hospital but, when on acute on-call, there
could be requests to give advice to the Accident and Emergency Departments at
Pontefract General Infirmary and Dewsbury District Hospital. Supervised clinics and surgery also takes
place at these peripheral hospital sites.

The MYDoc Training Programme Educational Input &
Recognition
Doctors appointed to a MYDoc post will receive
relevant educational input. The Trust
identifies the following as educational opportunities:
Core Service Duties
Routine clinical
work affords many informal opportunities for learning, especially in
multidisciplinary team meetings, as well as ad hoc formal 'bedside' teaching.
Clinics
Not always available
as a formal training opportunity for all grades but extra exposure often
possible within ambulatory care.
Ward Rounds
Formal and informal
teaching rounds where possible, formality usually dependent on clinical
activity levels.
Breakfast Clubs
Foundation and other
grades of trainees can be fully involved in delivering teaching to other
trainees and medical/dental students.
Mandatory Training
Available through
the Trust Intranet.
Teaching
Numerous opportunities
to teach medical/dental students and junior doctors/dentists as formal
sessions or informally. Training the trainers courses are available
externally and occasionally in-house.
Study / PDP Days
Study leave is
granted according to HEE and trust policies and signed off by the educational
supervisor if appropriate.
Other departmental teaching and
training sessions
Within the Trust
there are many educational opportunities, most of which are open to all
members of staff. Trainees are encouraged to take these opportunities so long
as it will not adversely affect the smooth running of the department. The
Education Department maintains an up-to-date schedule of training across the
Trust. Some training using low to high fidelity simulation and Human factors
training is also available in most specialties. X-Ray, audit, research and
departmental meetings are also present in most specialties and provide a
source of education both formally and informally. Management meetings within
and between departments offer an excellent opportunity for informal
learning.

Supervision Meetings
It is important that
the trainee receives regular feedback and has regular meetings with their
Educational and Clinical Supervisors to discuss their progression and
progress against their PDP and personalised work schedule.
The Trainees
Clinical Supervisor shall meet with them at the start and end of the
placement and complete the necessary documentation as detailed on the
E-portfolio.
Workplace Based Assessments
The ARCP
requirements are set out in the Core Curriculum. The trainee will have the
opportunity to achieve AT LEAST the minimum number of assessments recommended
per placement (and should check their curriculum to ensure the minimum is
met, at least throughout their placement).
Audit / Quality Improvement
The department is
expected to undertake a number each year. The trainee will have opportunities
to be included and should discuss these with their educational supervisor.
Study Time
1 hour per week
set-aside for trainees to complete work mandated by the curriculum. The hour
can be taken at a time that is at the discretion of the trainee, but should
not adversely impact the smooth running of the department. The work includes
but is not limited to: Pre-reading for ALS Course, Maintaining the
e-portfolio, Involvement in quality improvement, SCRIPT modules.
Exam Preparation
Support available to
prepare for MFDS/MJDF examinations.

Qualifications
Essential
- Applicants must have a BDS/MBBS or equivalent dental/medical qualification

- Understand the principles and relevance of clinic research
