Job summary

We are delighted to be able to offer two exciting opportunities to join the Patient and Carer Involvement Service. We are looking to recruit two Patient and Carer Involvement Facilitators one 30 hour permanent position and a 12 month 37.5 hour secondment, to cover maternity leave.

The principal role of the post will be the facilitation, co-ordination and development of service user and carer involvement and engagement across a given locality. You will work within the locality, inclusive of the Community, Inpatient and Specialist Services, to support and encourage that the voice, views and potential needs of service users and carers are heard and acted upon at a local and Trust level, ensuring the best provision of high quality, safe and effective care.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be to develop sustainable engagement with service users and carers who have accessed CNTW services, with a view to bringing about a comprehensive strategy for ensuring our Involvement Bank has a membership which is representative of our community, in order to draw upon their expertise and experience.

You will be required to explore the tools for meaningful and proactive engagement with people from different backgrounds, looking at how to address fears and motives for low engagement and understanding the dynamics of communities in relation to their lived experiences.

The post holder will provide and receive complex, and often sensitive information in a clear, compassionate and highly effective manner. This could be verbally, in person, by telephone or written format. Attendance at key committees and the support and facilitation of service user and carer forums is a necessary part of the role; as is providing detailed reporting. You must have the ability to communicate the outcomes of your projects and activities in formal written reports to inform all levels of the organisation and ensuring that Trust priorities are met in any joint work.

The post holder will be required to travel to attend meetings across the Trust, including the Involvement Team main office at St. George's Park, on a regular basis.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to Degree Level, Post Graduate Diploma, or equivalent experience

Experience and Knoweldge

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years experience working with non-statutory services and service user and carer groups in mental health
  • Demonstrable experience in the development, co-ordination and delivery of training and education programmes
  • High level of understanding of mental health services, issues and current local and national policy with regards to involvement and participation
  • Demonstrable ability to relate to both service users, carers and to health service managers at the most senior level
  • Experience in working with Local Communities

Desirable

  • Personal lived experience of mental health issues, or personal experience of caring for individual(s) who has experienced mental health issues

Skills and Competiencies

Essential

  • Experience of and skills in working with individuals and groups presenting with mental health problems
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills and ability to work with diverse groups
  • Considerable experience and skills in methods of community development
  • Ability to manage stress and to plan and prioritise workload
  • Proven ability in interpretation of data and providing management reports
