Job summary

Newham University Hospital is a diverse and dynamic role within one of London's largest ultrasound departments. The post holder should demonstrate an ability to perform a range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations including obstetrics, gynaecology, musculoskeletal, abdominal, paediatrics, head and neck and vascular imaging. The position has a vital role in providing high level patient care and diagnostics, across a 7 day service with 12-hour operating days, which will directly impact patient treatment.

Our Sonographers undertake clinical work within established quality standards of practice, adhering to Ultrasound guidelines such as those published by BMUS, RCOG, RCR and NICE. The post-holder will work within departmental protocols as a practitioner in the delivery of all ultrasound imaging, reporting and management of the patient.

The postholder will also be responsible for contributing to ongoing research, teaching and audits. Collaborative working across multi-disciplinary teams and across the wider Imaging department will be fundamental. Professional development and development of additional technical diagnostic skills is highly promoted through our internal Barts Health Trust-wide education and preceptorship programme. Postholders will be encouraged to utilise their regular CPD sessions to promote further learning and development.

Qualifications

Essential

  • oPost Graduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound
  • oCurrent and up to date state registration through a regulatory body (HCPC; NMC or GMC) or RCT

Desirable

  • oTo hold a BSc Hons degree or DCR in Diagnostic Radiography
  • oMSc in Medical Ultrasound
  • oDQASS Nuchal Translucency certification

Knowledge / Experience

Essential

  • oAn up to date knowledge of current and emerging ultrasound techniques and relevant topics / professional issues.
  • oAble to demonstrate the ability to carry out and report on a full range of ultrasound examinations in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, General Abdominal and Small Parts
  • oEvidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • oTraining in vascular ultrasound
  • oTraining in MSK ultrasound
  • oExperience of post graduate teaching
  • oAttendance of a clinical supervisor course
