An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to join and develop their role in the existing Specialist Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team at The South Tees NHS Foundation Trust .
As a Band 6 Occupational Therapist within the Trust the postholder will also be part of the wider Integrated OT service. This is a unique partnership between Health and Social care in South Tees with a commitment to working together, improving the quality of our services and getting rid of existing barriers between health and social services.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is receiving significant funding and development as part of the NHS Pulmonary Rehabilitation 5 year vision and is an excellent time to join this team and contribute to these changes including the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services Accreditation Scheme (PRSAS)
OT is fast becoming a new role within pulmonary rehab which was previously seen as a physio led service. As the OT you would develop the service to include more specific anxiety management, fatigue management as well as ensuring any functional needs of these patients are met through rehab
The team provide pulmonary rehabilitation to individuals and groups in a variety of locations including patients own homes. This is a large Pulmonary Rehabilitation service that currently provides 20 classes per week across hospital based and leisure centre venues.
Main duties of the job
To work as part of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service providing effective and efficient respiratory therapy to patients over eighteen years of age, who live in the Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland localities, within the framework of clinical governance.
To perform skilled therapeutic assessment of patients for Pulmonary Rehabilitation who present with diverse and complex chronic physical and psychological problems
To deliver Pulmonary Rehabilitation exercise, education programmes, anxiety and fatigue management using evidence based, client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
Reduce acute admissions, reduce exacerbations and increase capacity in primary care by optimising treatment and management of breathlessness, COPD and other respiratory conditions. Improve patient attendance and completion of Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
To work across different venues and locations in the community including patient's own homes
The service aims to enable individuals to maximise their independence and management of long term respiratory conditions.

- Experience working in a service providing rehabilitation
- Experience working within the NHS
- Has experience working with respiratory patients
- Experience working with patients who required fatigue management or energy conservation

- High level of Experience working with patients with respiratory conditions
Qualifications
Essential
- To hold a degree or relevant diploma in Occupational Therapy
- Current HCPC registration
Knowledge & Skills
Essential
- Theoretical knowledge and applied clinical practice in a broad range of OT and rehabilitation areas.
Desirable
- Ability to deliver structured presentations to groups of patients and/or service
- Teaching skills and previous student supervision experience
Personal Attributes
Essential
- Able to travel independently in relation to this post throughout the localities
