Come and join the High Peak Stroke and Neurology Team providing specialist intervention in a community settings within an MDT. You will work within a larger team that covers the High Peak and North Dales.

Our team focus is on the rehabilitation of patients with Stroke and Neurological long- term conditions, it is essential that you have a keen interest and some experience in this field.

You will have excellent communication and problem solving skills and the ability to plan and organise competent, evidence based clinical care.

We will provide you with a supportive environment to develop your skills and experience. Our evolving service has a strong emphasis on high quality, evidence based care, team work and staff well-being.

We welcome applications from those already at Band 6 and also current Band 5 OTs with relevant experience, knowledge and skills who are looking to develop into a Band 6 role.

You will be required to travel to reach patients in the community and you must be able to access transport.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist who is commited to rehabilitation for stroke and progressive neurological disorders. You will be required to:

Provide specialist Occupational Therapy Assessments and treatment for adults presenting with a variety of stroke and neurological conditions both acute and progressive.

Provide specialist intervention, frequently as a lone practitioner, in the home of the patient.

When required, intervention will be provided in a clinical setting.

Work as a member of the multi disciplinary team, working closely with fellow therapists and nursing teams.

Educate and train other Occupational Therapy staff, healthcare professionals, students, support workers and carers.

Participate in the development of effective, responsive, evidence based and patient centred services.

Assist on specific projects in agreement with the Team Leader and Clinical Lead for the Service.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Bsc / diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Ability to travel in the Community
  • Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Desirable

  • Membership of Professional Body and Special Interest Groups particularly Neurological Practice (formerly NANOT)
  • Postgraduate experience and /or training in Stroke/neurological rehabilitation

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post Graduate experience
  • Evidence of experience treating Stroke and Neurological conditions
  • Experience of working in physical rehabilitation (all ages).
  • Experience of working with carers
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary team working

Desirable

  • Relevant experience of working in a community setting
  • Holistic and client centred practice

Skills

Essential

  • Experience acquired skills in the field of Neurological Rehabilitation
  • Experience acquired skills in stroke rehabilitation
  • Ability to assess and treat a variety of conditions.
  • Ability to undertake cognitive/perceptual assessment/rehabilitation
  • Ability to maintain documentation that is relevant, concise, accurate and legible.
  • Excellent communication skills and Good time management skills
