Job summary

As a Deputy Service Manager within our NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Talking Therapies team, you will play a key role in supporting and developing our team of mental health practitioners to deliver a first-class service.

The successful candidate will be skilled in managing a diverse workforce, highly motivated with the ability to organise and prioritise their own workload. The role is varied and creative, with the opportunity to feed into service change, make a real difference in local communities and lead on exciting new projects.

Job responsibilities

Main aims of the post

- To work with the service manager to support team members to deliver the service to a

high standard.

- To supervise staff where necessary, ensuring staff are supported and confident in their

roles. This will include facilitating line management.

- To support the service manager to deliver the service by facilitating the development of

the team.

- To ensure effective and high quality delivery of all services in accordance with the group

values and organisational stamps, through staff teams and individuals.

- To be responsible for operational and day to day activities of the service.

- To provide operational management and leadership for the service or project.

- To ensure effective delivery of all commissioned and agreed key performance indicators,

and to ensure the service adheres to all relevant statutory and legal requirements.

- To contribute to the development of the service and the wider group as necessary.

Main duties of the post

1. To effectively line manage a team or teams of staff to ensure that the team are cohesive and

work well together

2. To provide advice, support and guidance to team members

3. To recruit, induct and develop staff to develop the business

4. To develop and implement innovative ways of working with staff and service users, promoting

service user involvement in service delivery and development

5. To ensure that relevant data and information is collected and where necessary collated for

reports and recording

6. To develop and maintain relationships with external organisations and agencies, liaising with a

variety of stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery

7. To undertake appropriate administrative duties for the post

8. To provide information for the manager to ensure that the service is compliant with relevant

external regulatory requirements

9. To triage referrals where necessary

10. To stand in for the service manager in their absence and as agreed

11. To participate in an on call system and /or duty manager rota as required

12. To manage risks associated with the service including referrals, assessments and risk

management of service users; incident and accidents; ensuring business continuity

13. Manage/support volunteering opportunities, adhering to Big Life group policies/procedures and accreditations

14. Act as an external ambassador for your service attending conferences, workshops and

networking meetings as appropriate

15. Ensure all National IAPT outcomes are delivered and clinical standards adhered to

Essential

  • a. Ability to effectively manage staff and teams
  • b. Ability to identify and manage operational risks in service delivery
  • c. Ability to successfully contribute towards bids and tenders
  • d. Ability to effectively work with a range of people from different skills
  • and backgrounds, both internally and externally
  • e. Ability to write reports and communicate well in English

  • g. Ability to work independently and make decisions relating to
  • operational delivery and risk

Experience

Essential

  • a. Experience of successfully managing teams of staff
  • b. Experience of working with a range of service providers and
  • stakeholders.
  • c. Experience of developing and improving services and projects
  • d. Experience of effectively managing budgets
  • e. Experience of effectively working under pressure in a dynamic
  • environment
  • f. Minimum of 3 years experience working within a service delivering
  • therapeutic/mental health interventions
  • g. Experience of compiling reports for commissioners and other external
  • audiences

Knowledge

Essential

  • a. Knowledge of the barriers that service users face when accessing
  • mainstream services
  • b. Knowledge of the local area your service is based in (community
  • groups, services available as well as local demographics)

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant Mental Health Qualification (Psychological Wellbeing
  • practitioner/Registered Mental Health Nurse/Social Worker/ Counsellor/CBT Therapist)

Desirable

  • Qualified PWP supervisor/ Supervisor Training
