Job summary

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated physiotherapist to join our expanding service. You will support this innovative team with excellent clinical and team leadership skills that deliver high quality patient cantered care and support the service leads to deliver department objectives and service developments. The post rotates between primary and secondary care.

You will work as part of a large MSK department that includes band 5, 6, 7, advanced practice and consultant physiotherapists who work across primary and secondary care

Your primary role will be managing a mix of primary and secondary care referrals, supporting the development of junior staff, participating in teaching programmes, leading service developments and managing a clinical team

Main duties of the job

This role will be based in a musculoskeletal outpatient physiotherapy department treating acute, sub-acute and chronic pathologies.

To provide a high standard of musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy for acute and sub-acute MSK patients and chronic pain patients as an autonomous practitioner, with access to advice and support from colleagues if required. The post holder will be responsible for their own caseload providing thorough clinical assessment, diagnosis, planning treatment and appropriate discharge from the service adapting practice to suit the needs of the patient. Their practice will include advanced physiotherapy assessment and treatment of patients within the speciality who may complex, chronic pain presentations. Their role may well incorporate aspects of hand therapy and rheumatology patients.

To supervise, appraise and advise therapy and support staff working in this area and to co-ordinate students allocated to the speciality, assisting the clinical educators as required. Supervise, educate and assess the performance of therapy students; this will be to a graduate level and may be to a post graduate level, with support from the Extended Scope Practitioners.

Experience

Essential

  • oPost graduate experience as a senior physiotherapist in relevant MSK outpatient, orthopaedic and rheumatology clinical environments
  • oDocumented evidence of CPD, in accordance with HPC recommendations.
  • oExperience of working as part of a team uni-professional and multi- professional team.
  • oAdvice, supervision, appraisal, training and support to more junior staff, support staff and students.
  • oExperience of audit/research
  • oExperience of working within a chronic pain team
  • oExperience with persistent pain pathologies

Desirable

  • oAppropriate post registration NHS experience
  • oExperience of sole working as part of an out of hours orthopaedic weekend service
  • oWorking in FCP setting and completed/started FCP roadmap

Skills

Essential

  • oGood knowledge of current best practice in physiotherapy in the relevant setting
  • oSpecialist clinical skills in musculoskeletal outpatients and pain.
  • oUnderstanding and application of risk management
  • oUnderstand legal responsibilities of the profession and the associated code of ethics.
  • oAbility to organise and prioritise own and more junior staffs workload and supervise support staff in this field.
  • oAbility to work autonomously and set own priorities and support other staff in this field
  • oDemonstrate understanding and previous participation in activity to support the clinical governance agenda.
