Following recent internal secondments within the Diabetes Podiatry Team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Diabetes MDFT an exciting opportunity has become available to work within this team.
Our multidisciplinary team currently consists of three Diabetes Foot Consultants and four Diabetes Specialist Podiatrists. Supported by a Vascular and Orthopaedic surgeon, Microbiologists, Consultant Plastic Surgeons, a Podiatry Assistant and an Orthotist providing expert care and review across the outpatient and in-patient setting for ICHT's three sites; St Mary's Hospital, Hammersmith Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital.
The service looks after complicated diabetes foot disease, from ulceration to Charcot, and high-risk patients, including those on hemodialysis and those with renal transplants. We are looking to recruit a Fixed Term (till end of June 2025) Band 7 1.0 WTE Diabetes Specialist Podiatrist, who will be joining our Multi-Disciplinary Team.
The successful candidate will be HCPC registered. They will have a proven record in the assessment, diagnosis and management of diabetes foot complications and ideally experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team. Applications are welcomed from those currently at a Band 6 level and that are willing and motivated to highly develop their current skills further, as the department supports continuous professional development and career progression.
Main duties of the job
- Provides specialist service for patients with active diabetic foot ulceration, Charcot, gangrene and surgical wounds offering both an inpatient and outpatient service.
- The inpatient service for active diabetes foot ulceration is limited to initial assessment where the team should facilitate an appropriate review with foot team in the Imperial Foot Unit or on-going delivery of an agreed MDT foot team care plan.
- Provides a standard podiatry service to in-patient areas including healthcare professional education and supports other multi-disciplinary services in the trust as agreed with the Lead Consultant Imperial Diabetes Foot service and Business Manager
- Audit is an integral element of any successful services and as a member of the Diabetic Foot Team you will be expected to regularly participate in clinical audit, and present the findings

EDUCATION
Essential
- Diploma / degree in Podiatry
- Registration with the Health Professions Council (UK)
- Evidence of CPD, maintained in a portfolio showing CPD events/activity relevant to the clinical specialty
Desirable
- Diabetes related further study at MSc level
SKILLS/ABILITIES
Essential
- Ability to carry out management/treatment programmes using clinical reasoning, problem solving, sound judgement and wide knowledge of treatment options.
- Ability to complete clear, accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date clinical records in line with legal/departmental requirements
- Competent IT skills (Word, Email)
- Awareness of current professional practice and new research
- Knowledge of professional standards

- Experience of pressure relieving devices
