Job summary

We require an enthusiastic team player to join our nursing team at Pershore Community Hospital. We are a twenty six bedded ward. Patients are cared for by all members of the multi-disciplinary team. The Unit is staffed 24/7, and medical support is provided by Advanced Clinical Practitioners and a part time GP.

Successful applicants will be expected to work a variety of shifts over a 7-day period including days and nights and weekends

This role requires you to have current right to work in the UK which enables you to undertake the role without need of sponsorship. Given the current UK immigration regulations this role is not eligible for sponsorship and therefore it is not possible for the Trust to sponsor applicants.

Main duties of the job

As a Healthcare Support Worker you will be responsible for providing care to people admitted to our ward for rehabilitation. We work closely as a multi-disciplinary team. Our focus is promoting the comfort and wellbeing of patients, enabling them to live as independently as possible. Pershore is a small but friendly team to work with. As a team we encourage ongoing learning and development through reflection and clinical supervision which we try and embed in our daily practice.

Pershore Community Hospital plays a crucial role in the delivery of local NHS services, providing more care and treatment to people closer to home. The emphasis is to reduce the length of stay in hospital, whilst ensuring excellent care which is safe, effective, personalised and compassionate to the standards you would expect to receive for your friends and family.

Our support workers are required to support the nurses in the running of the ward, working alongside all members of the MDT as well as patients, their families and carers to provided 24/7 rehabilitation to enable the highest level of independence and quality of life.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Provide safe and effective care
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, support therapy team with the ongoing rehabilitation of the patient
  • Assist patients with diet, nutrition and hydration and complete appropriate documentation
  • Assist with all aspects of personal care including washing, dressing, mobilising, toileting
  • Mobilise patients using correct mobility equipment following training
  • Liaise with nursing staff for information regarding clinical observations, dressings, blood samples, microbiology tests, weights etc
  • Comply with policies and procedures for the ward at all times

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Level 2 qualification (e.g. GCSE Grade A-C, NVQ2) in Care OR
  • A good standard of general education to GCSE level and will be expected to undertake the relevant Level 2 qualification on appointment to post
  • Will be expected to meet the Care Certificate standards within 12 weeks of commencing employment with the Trust
  • I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer

Experience

Essential

  • Working with adults in a care setting

Desirable

  • Nursing experience within the NHS / Hospital Setting
  • Experience of working in general medicine or rehabilitation
