We have a band 2 Health Care Assistant position on FERN ward, caring for working age male adults with acute mental health issues.

We aim to support each service user through their journey to recovery with the support from the Multi-disciplinary team.

We are keen to have a person who is passionate about supporting service users to join our team. The service user will be provided with person centered care and support. The successful candidate will be working alongside other dedicated multi-disciplinary team members.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist qualified nursing staff in the assessment, delivery and evaluation of care to patients suffering from Mental Illness, who may also present with challenging behaviour, ensuring individual needs are met.
  • Under the supervision of registered health care professionals assist the healthcare team with the provision of clinical care.
  • Ensure patient safety is maintained and patient experience is positive by treating all patients, relatives and colleagues with respect, dignity and courtesy in accordance with Trust values.
  • Ensure that stock of clinical and non clinical resources required on the ward is maintained.
  • To support patients through their journey to recover and promote independence.
  • To support junior members of staff in developing their skills on the ward and acting as a role model for them.

  • NVQ2 training or equivalent experience.
  • Willing and able to undertake all Trust mandatory training requirements.

  • NVQ III in care or modules relevant to the area.
  • Willingness to undergo job development and training, undertaking minimum skill including English and Maths

  • Working in a caring environment (professionally or at home), which includes Mental Health
  • Effective patient/client care skills, which includes effective communication.

  • Able to evidence working in a caring environment or worked in a voluntary position.
