Job summary

We are looking for a highly motivated Medical Education Fellow to join our dynamic medical education team.The purpose of the post is to develop the teaching offer to UCL Year 5 Undergraduates within Psychiatry. This may include, but not be limited to, the organisation and delivery of educational programmes, the development and evaluation of innovative educational programmes and materials and the development of assessments. The post holder will have the opportunity to work with educational leads who can support their development as an educator during the placement and advise on opportunities for personal development. While formal educational qualifications are not a prerequisite for appointment, enthusiasm as an educator will be.

The post holder will be an integral member of the educational faculty and will have the opportunity to observe and contribute to all aspects of the undergraduate programmes and to gain an understanding of structure and governance within education.

The post is offered as a fellowship in medical education for a period of one year.

There are fixed teaching sessions on the timetable and fixed meetings but there is also a lot of flexibility. We welcome new education ideas and projects.You will have access study leave and a budget which will allow you to attend courses related to your post.

Main duties of the job

Specific Duties of the Post includes:

To support the Undergraduate Psychiatry Lead and Psychiatry consultants in their education roles.

To deliver teaching to Year 5 medical students during their 3-week ward placements as well as during their 3 weeks off ward

To develop a range of educational materials: website content, interactive platforms, e-learning modules, written materials, or handbooks.

To produce high-standard materials for written examinations and OSCE stations.

To take part in medical school examinations

To work with the Medical Education Undergraduate Managers and admin team to understand and support the delivery of undergraduate education.

To develop, document and support structures for the delivery of educational programmes and curriculum development.

To evaluate and improve educational programmes.

Job responsibilities

The postholder will be an integral member of the educational faculty at NLMHP and will have the opportunity to observe and contribute to all aspects of the undergraduate (including teaching medical students in various locations across the Trust) and gaining an understanding of the structure and governance within medical education. Person Specification

Essential

Essential

  • Fully registered with the General Medical Council
  • Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
  • An active interest in medical education
  • Enthusiasm and confidence in teaching and facilitating roles and willingness to develop those skills to a high degree
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) & Excellent presentation and descriptive skills
  • Well-developed IT skills including word processing & Excellent organizational skills
  • Three years of experience in postgraduate psychiatry
  • Self-motivating and ability to work in a team

Desirable

  • Evidence of post-graduate study in medical education
  • Technical skills and knowledge of electronic and web-based media and innovative learning resources
  • Experience in delivery of undergraduate medical education
