Job summary

Resident Medical Officer (RMO) and/or Clinical Research Fellow (CRF).

It is the trusts objective to be world class in research as well as in clinical services and research. Excellence in research has both reputational and financial benefits as well as contractual commitments.

This role could be combined with research and enrolment onto a higher degree, typically MD or PhD, with UCL. This post is an excellent opportunity for candidates finishing foundation or core training and looking to perfect their portfolios before moving into higher surgical or medical training, and for those taking a research break from training.

This is a fixed term role for 1 year.

Main duties of the job

This is a unique clinical role.

You will work extremely closely with consultants from a range of specialties, in particular nephrology, transplant, general, plastics, orthopaedic and vascular surgery, medical specialties and geriatric medicine.

You will provide first-line medical care to patients to the Private Patients Unit at the Royal free London NHS FT supported directly by the admitting consultant and the acute medical facilities of a major NHS teaching hospital.

Job responsibilities

The PPU is based on the 12th Floor of the Royal Free Hospital where there are 4 private wards, a private dialysis unit, a private chemotherapy suite and dedicated RMO on call 24 hour accommodation with en suite facilities. All RMOs will be part of a rota to provide 24-hour resident medical support to patients of admitting consultants and nursing Staff within our diverse and expanding unit.

Education & professional Qualifications

Essential

  • Medical degree MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration
  • Completed foundation training
  • ALS
  • Teaching qualification

Desirable

  • Completed a further 2 years of post foundation training

  • Experience in medical education
  • Experience of teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate levels and medical and non-medical staff
  • Ability and commitment to teach in a clinical setting
