Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of a Consultant General Paediatrician.

We are looking for two enthusiastic and highly motivated colleagues to join our established team of General Paediatricians.

There are two full time, 10 PA, posts available. However, applicants wishing to work less than full time are also encouraged to apply.

There is an opportunity to develop a specialist interest to compliment those already held within the department. A specialist interest in epilepsy, adolescent mental health and acute paediatric medicine would be particularly welcome.

The successful candidate will join 14 existing General Paediatricians in providing general paediatric cover in a hot-week rota 1:12 with 1:12 on call. The neonatal unit is covered by six other consultants on a separate rota.

Main duties of the job

In summary the post holders will contribute to the following clinical services:

o Inpatient care for general paediatric wards.

o Paediatric Assessment Unit shifts

o Advice and Guidance service for Primary Care.

o Rapid Access Clinics

o General Paediatric clinics

o Special Interest work

o Late shifts on a 1:12 basis, corresponding with on call (additional to a middle grade or nurse practitioner)

o Supervision of junior doctors.

o The care and support of other team members and colleagues.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • To have achieved a CCT OR Can provide evidence that he/she is within 6 months of the CCT date at the time of interview, and is expected to achieve CCT
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • APLS

Experience

Essential

  • Expertise in acute general paediatrics
  • Expertise in managing safeguarding

Desirable

  • Epilepsy experience or SPIN in epilepsy
  • Experience of adolescent and integrated mental health medicine

Skills

Essential

  • willingness to take a lead in developing/ managing a clinical area
  • well experienced in postgraduate teaching and training

Desirable

  • Higher qualification in medical education
