Job summary

There is an exciting opportunity to join this friendly department. The post holder will contribute to the provision of a high quality gastroenterology service for Lincolnshire, working closely with full-time colleagues on each site. The appointee will be expected to join the GI bleed rota on a 1:6 basis. Whilst it is most important to us to find the right colleague to work with, applicants with interests in hepato-biliary disease, nutrition or advanced endoscopy techniques would be particularly welcome.

Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons to work full time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

We are keen to appoint candidates with the following skills: ERCP, EUS and Capsular Endoscopy.

Main duties of the job

The successful post-holder will:

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service with the highest standards of patient care
  • Work with the multi-professional team to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines
  • Develop and maintain good working practices
  • Collaborate and promote close working links with colleagues in tertiary centres, community services and primary care
  • Provide support and leadership to junior medical colleagues, nursing colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

About us

This post is to meet the growing demand for gastroenterology services across the county.

The post sits within the department of gastroenterology and managerially within the speciality medicine business unit. It is anticipated that with this post the gastroenterologists will work as a team to ensure robust and appropriate cover of the wards and gastroenterology referrals. Teamwork is an essential requirement.

The post-holder will take responsibility for their continuing professional development (CPD) and will be supported by the Trust when appropriate. The post-holder will also be required to be committed to ensuring their revalidation is completed and up to date.

The gastroenterology unit is a friendly and supportive team, with a well developed team ethic, which is shared by the junior medical support. In addition, there are a number of Nurse Specialists in endoscopy doing both upper and lower GI endoscopies. There are Macmillan upper GI nurse specialists to support the upper GI/HPB cancer caseload, IBD nurse specialists and further nurse specialists supporting Hepatitis C treatment and alcohol liaison.

Person Specification

Qualification

Essential

  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent
  • Fully registered with the GMC with Licence to Practice
  • CCT Gastroenterology or equivalent (or within 6 months of eligibility for specialist register)
  • Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via CCT/CESR/European Community Rights

Desirable

  • An appropriate higher degree e.g. an MD, PhD or equivalent
  • Sub specialty accreditation
  • Experience in GI motility and Functional Bowel Disorders

Experiance

Essential

  • Able to perform a wide range of diagnostic and Therapeutic upper & lower GI endoscopic procedures

Desirable

  • Advanced therapeutic endoscopic procedures

Teaching

Essential

  • Experience in teaching undergraduates and Post graduate trainees.

Desirable

  • Teaching qualification e.g. physician as educator accreditation
