Job summary

The post holders will have the requisite knowledge and skills to work independently with a range of medical devices, including 'complex' and 'non-complex' electrical medical equipment including; service checks, PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance) checks, safety checks and calibration of such equipment (e.g. infusion devices, cardiac monitors, temperature measuring devices, OBS; observation devices) and also varied medical gas appliances (e.g. flowmeters, regulators and suction units).

They will have the knowledge to differentiate between technical and clinical problems and have the autonomy to deal with issues within the remit of the post but refers more complex problems to suitably qualified colleagues.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will also help plan and organise the calibration of the departments test equipment used on complex and non - complex medical test equipment including gas test measurement appliances.

The post holder will be expected to carry out their duties within the workshop environment and in clinical environments i.e. Hospital wards, Theatres and Critical Care areas.

The post holder will also be expected to service, repair and train end users in the use of medical gas and suction equipment and some complex and non - complex electro-medical devices.

The post holder will be based at Morriston Hospital, where the major part of the duties will be delivered, but will be expected to work in other parts of the Health Board as required.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to plan and organise Planned Preventative Maintenance activity on a wide range of complex and non complex medical equipment plus also associated medical gas equipment

They will be responsible for carrying out servicing and repairs of more complex medical equipment such as Defibrillators, Multi-Parameter Monitoring Equipment, Endoscopic Equipment Diathermy etc, Volumetric and Syringe pump configuration and help with end-user training on a number of more complex med equipment groups.

They will be expected to manage the ordering of stock associated with their allocated complex and general medical equipment

The post holder will provide senior MEMS management with advice on the upgrading and replacement of all medical gas equipment plus general electrical medical equipment within the remit of the post

They will be responsible for data entry and accuracy for all records for technical servicing, repair, commissioning, calibration and disposal on a defined group of complex and non complex electro medical equipment

Clinical duties include work with, and support clinical staff, patients and carers with issues relating to medical gas/vacuum and complex & non-complex electromedical equipment, offering advice within the scope of the post.

Professional duties include;To work according to Health Board and Departmental policies and procedures.

To actively contribute to the departments ISO 9001 Quality System.

To participate fully in the directorates CPD program by attending all necessary manufacturers training courses and other relevant associated courses, conferences and seminars.

To attend all training courses deemed mandatory for the post.
