Job summary

We are looking for a new FY3 Hospice Doctor to join our Hospice Community Specialist Palliative Care Team.

  • Provide specialist palliative care medical support to patients within the Inpatient Unit, Wellbeing Centre and in the Community.
  • Work as an integrated member of the multidisciplinary team, providing holistic, patient focused care. You will be supported in your decision making by the Palliative Care Consultants.

Main duties of the job

What are the main responsibilities of the FY3 Hospice Doctor?

  • With the support of the consultants, to be responsible for day to day medical management of patients in the Inpatient Unit, including admissions, clinical meetings, ward rounds, and close working with the multidisciplinary team.
  • To be responsible for death certifications and for the completion of associated administrative requirements.
  • To assess the changing medical needs of day patients, out patients, or home care patients as Required
  • To teach and participate fully in educational programmes and mandatory training, including medical student teaching.
  • To assist with and contribute to the clinical governance of the Hospice
  • To be actively involved in agreed research and audit projects.
  • To maintain continuing professional development and engage fully in performance review and appraisal.
  • To engage in the revalidation requirements as set by the GMC.

Am I the right person for this FY3 Hospice Doctor role?

  • Minimum of 2 years experience since full GMC registration
  • Broad medical experience with some experience of specialist palliative care
  • Full registration with the GMC with a License to Practice required
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Experience of clinical audit to demonstrable improvements in clinical practice
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • To be responsible for generating and maintaining patient records, including inputting patient information onto databases.
  • To be responsible for death certifications and for the completion of associated administrative requirements.
  • To identify and meet the palliative needs of patients including the physical, psychological, social and spiritual and also the emotional and psychological care needs of their relatives and friends.
  • To assess the changing medical needs of day patients, out patients, or home care patients as Required
  • To liaise with Primary and Secondary Care Teams ensuring consistency of information giving and continuity of care.
  • To teach and participate fully in educational programmes and mandatory training, including medical student teaching.
  • To assist with and contribute to the clinical governance of the Hospice
  • To be actively involved in agreed research and audit projects.
  • To maintain continuing professional development and engage fully in performance review and appraisal.
  • To engage in the revalidation requirements as set by the GMC.

Am I the right person for this FY3 Hospice Doctor role?

  • Minimum of 2 years experience since full GMC registration
  • Broad medical experience with some experience of specialist palliative care
  • Specific interest in Palliative Medicine, with a desire to develop skills further
  • Full registration with the GMC with a Licence to Practice required
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively with patients, families & colleagues
  • Demonstrates breadth of experience & awareness in clinical practice
  • Good IT skills
  • Experience of clinical audit to demonstrable improvements in clinical practice
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
