Job summary

An exciting and challenging development opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and innovative individual with excellent clinical skills and ED experience to join our children's nursing team in our busy Paediatric Emergency Department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich.

The successful candidate will have shared responsibility for the Children's ED alongside another band 7 working alongside the ED Consultants, medical team and Matron for Children's Services. You will also be expected to work clinically in the department alongside the nursing staff, providing the additional support and clinical expertise. As part of the role you will be given an opportunity to develop your management and leadership skills, whilst working in a supportive, diverse team.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 7 nurse you will be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, and the setting of standards of care of the children and their family / carers whilst in the emergency department. Responsibilities also include liaising with the multidisciplinary team and providing leadership to nursing colleagues.

The post holder would also be expected to manage sickness following the Trust policy, manage the deployment and supervision of staff, participate in the selection and performance review of nursing staff and teach both students and qualified nurses.

This is a clinical position and therefore the successful candidate will be expected to work clinical shifts alongside the other Band 7.

Job Summary:

The post holder has shared 24 hour responsibility for the Childrens Accident and Emergency Department.

Act as an expert clinical practitioner and role model within all areas of childrens emergency nursing.

The development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, and the setting of standards of care of the children and their family / carers.

This responsibility includes liaising with the multidisciplinary team and providing leadership to nursing colleagues.

The post holder is also expected to manage the deployment and supervision of staff, participate in the selection and performance review of nursing staff and teach both student and qualified nurses.

Take responsibility in managing and closing down clinical incidences for the department.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • RN Child / RSCN
  • Specialist A&E module at degree level or equivalent.
  • Studying to degree level in Nursing
  • Evidence of competency in a range of expanded roles (wound closure, PGD, POP,
  • Act as mentor & sign off mentor

Desirable

  • Degree
  • Able to cannulate & venepuncture
  • APLS Provider

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience since qualifying.
  • Significant experience of working with children in an emergency department.
  • Ability to document legibly and Precisely
  • Previous management & leadership experience.

Desirable

  • Experience in Research / clinical trials.
  • Experience in working autonomously.
