An
exciting opportunity has arisen to join us at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS
Foundation Trust. Within gastroenterology as a Capsule Nurse Endoscopist to
meet the increasing requirement across South Tyneside and Sunderland.
This
post will focus particularly on the delivery of national and trust standards in
the provision of Capsule Endoscopy in Patients. The post is for 7.5 hours per
week. The successful candidate requires excellent organisational and
communication skills. Although working as part of a team, you will be working
autonomously to manage your own caseload of patients. You will be someone who
has a passion for making a difference and putting the patient first and will
strive to deliver the best service for patients.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will have a
strong background in capsule endoscopy. This will include proficiency in
reading and reporting capsule studies, supporting and training the endoscopy
unit nursing staff with delivery of procedures.
The post holder will also be
expected to triage capsule endoscopy referrals and undertake a capsule
endoscopy preassessment clinic to assess patients and make appropriate
preparations prior to procedures. They will also have experience in delivering
capsule endoscopy related research and lease with the trusts research and development
team to deliver capsule endoscopy research studies.
They will be accountable to the
clinical service lead for capsule endoscopy and will receive support as
required.
The postholder will also have
experience in delivering capsule endoscopy teaching in a formal setting and be
expected to contribute as a course director for the trusts renowned European
Capsule Endoscopy training course.

As
a Nurse
Capsule Endoscopist the
post-holder will:
Independently
perform the procedure of capsule endoscopy including interpretation of results
following agreed protocols;
Obtain
informed consent from patients in line with Trust policy;
Administer
appropriate medication in a safe and competent manner working within agreed
protocols;
Provide
autonomous Nurse led capsule endoscopy service pre assessment clinic service to
identify suitable patients for procedure following referral and ensure
appropriate procedure precautions and protocol undertaken
Manage
referrals both locally and from within region.
Work
with the Endoscopy team in support of optimal Capsule Endoscopy service
provision delivering care to patients undergoing Capsule Endoscopy within
defined protocols;
Provide
expert advice, education, supporting patients, relatives and other healthcare
professionals within this specialist field.
Commit
to participation as Co-Course Director for the trusts European Capsule
Endoscopy Course
Responsibilities:
Be accountable for the assessment, planning and
delivery of all aspects of patient care across the pathway;
Provide
information for patients, inpatients or within the community, either face to
face or telephone consultation;
Provide
education and training and clinical advice and support to Trust staff, patients
and relatives/carers;
Participate
in research relevant to the needs of specialist area;
Be
responsible for own case load in outpatients clinic for patients triaged as
suitable for nurse led clinics.
