Job summary

We have an excellent opportunity to join our Trust within our Governance Team in Maternity and Children Services. We are looking an experienced midwife or nurse who is passionate about patient safety, and proactive about working with families, to bring improved outcomes for women and their families, you will be joining at an important and exciting time in our journey.

This role plays a key role in the delivery of the Trust's continuous quality improvement and patient safety programmes leading, coordinating and advising on all aspects of patient safety statutory requirements within the service. Working with the Head of Maternity Governance and senior management/directorate teams, you will lead the implementation of the National Patient Strategy for maternity services, including the recently implemented Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSFIR). This role will be responsible for the leadership and line management of the Maternity Patient Safety and Risk Team, in the development of key maternity patient safety systems and processes.

The person will be required to participate in the on-call provision.

Main duties of the job

o Work closely with the Head of Maternity Governance, the senior management and directorate teams within Maternity to ensure that the service meets the statutory requirements and standards for Patient Safety Governance.o Responsible for leading the maternity patient safety agenda and ensure a unified approach to the review of patient safety incidents across the service, in line with the Trust Policies & Procedures and best practice guidance.o Be regularly visible / present in clinical areas, encouraging interaction with all groups of staff and gathering 'soft' data to enable triangulation of data and establish effective working relationships.o Work closely with the other quality governance teams within the Trust to ensure meaningful and proactive triangulation of datao Act as a focal point for incident reporting within Maternity and encourage all staff to make use of the In-phase reporting system and share resulting good practice and lessons learned.o Escalation of incidents within Maternity that meet the Trust Patient Safety Incident Response Plan to the weekly Risk Review meeting and to the Patient Safety Incident Review Group (PSIRG)

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trusts 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please [email protected] this is problematic)and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Midwife or Nurse
  • Post-graduate qualification or equivalent in relevant field i.e. healthcare or patient safety or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Completed Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) related Health Services Safety Investigations Body (HSSIB) training

Experience/ Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience at senior level of staff and budget management
  • Evidence of leadership and management development
  • Knowledge of the NHS local and national political agenda in relation to maternity services and patient safety
  • Understanding of the NHS Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF)
  • Knowledge of clinical risk and governance

Desirable

  • Trained in After Action Review (AAR)

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to communicate concerns and issues with a range of people with differing communication needs
  • Able to lead, influence and persuade colleagues through change
  • Able to create and deliver presentations that effectively communicates information and ideas
  • Able to use excel for data input, analysis and producing graphs and reports, with proficient keyboard skills
  • Able to analyse and interpret findings of audits and develop action plans
