Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for recruitment of a Band 4 nursing Associate to our nursing team on the Elective Surgical Unit at Dewsbury and district hospital. The unit has 15 bed spaces and a chair area . There can be up to 25 admissions per day.

The unit is open 24/7 and admits inpatients and day cases for surgery. The specialities are varied and include Gynaecology ,urology ,general surgery, plastics and max fax. The successful candidate will care for patients pre operatively and post operatively in a ward environment. Previous surgical experience would be beneficial however traing will be given to the successful candidate

Main duties of the job

The main duties comprise of admission of the patients including safe their preparation for theatre. The patients are collected from theatre to return to the ward following surgery by a registrant.

The role encompasses the after care of the patients including the safe discharge of the day case patients, therefore good communication skills are essential .

Job responsibilities

Develop and improve practical and theoretical knowledge, competence and skills throughout the Nursing Associate Role and maintain all evidence required

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Foundation Level Degree
  • Nursing Associate Qualification
  • NMC Registered Nursing Associate Foundation Degree
  • Completion of End Point Assessment for applicants who have undertaken an apprenticeship route
  • GCSE Grade A-C English and Maths or Level 2 in Maths and English When English is spoken as a second language, must have an IELTS score of 7.0
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Completion of end point assessment if undertaken NA training as an apprentice

Desirable

  • Essential induction training and experience
  • Care Certificate
  • 5 GCSEs Grade A-C to include Maths and English
  • Level 3 Health related qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Be able to demonstrate ability to work in the area for which an application is made
  • Good experience of working in a teams
  • Experience of with the public demonstrating good customer care skills Experience of health coaching and promoting independent living
