Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and experienced Podiatrist to support the tissue viability team by providing a foot and nail care service across UHBW (Bristol and Weston Hospitals).

We are looking for a reliable, organised and self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills, who will demonstrate a passion and enthusiasm for improving patients' quality of life through an efficient foot and nail care service.

You will be responsible for providing a foot and nail care service for patients across the organisation and under the direction of the Lead Tissue Viability Nurse, you will lead on the evaluation of the foot care needs of the patient population across UHBW. The ability to work autonomously and as part of a team will be essential.

This is initially a four-month post which is being funded by Bristol and Weston Hospitals Charity. The post will be 15 hours per week (Monday-Friday working) and will be required to work at both BRI and Weston sites.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside the tissue viability team within University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust and will provide a high standard of Podiatric foot / nail care to patients in order to maintain mobility, independence and to relieve discomfort.

Practitioners will have at least two years NHS post registration experience.

The post holder will work autonomously and independently across the acute settings being responsible for the day to day running of the foot / nail care service with the support of the Lead Tissue Viability Nurse.

The post holder will plan and manage own caseload, providing specialist foot and nail care for patients

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Degree in Podiatric Medicine or Diploma in Podiatric Medicine
  • Certificate in Local Analgesia
  • Evidence of Masters level academic level study
  • Current Health Professions Council registration

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Significant postgraduate experience dealing with high-risk podiatric care, multi-collaborative team working and integrated care pathways
  • Previous experience of working in an NHS
  • Previous experience of working in both a team and in isolation managing a caseload of 'at risk' patients
  • Specialist knowledge gained through post graduate clinical experience, and specialised post graduate training and courses

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Evidence of skills in the management of foot pathologies
  • Due to the variety of key working relationships candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to overcome barriers to communication and/or comprehension e.g., learning difficulties, language barriers, dementia, high emotional states etc
  • Organisational skills in order to manage specific clinics and caseload and take responsibility for the day to day running of the clinics in which they work
  • Ability to manage a caseload with a high proportion of high-risk patients
  • Able to prioritise a clinical case load considering all relevant information and risk factors
  • Must be able to work under pressure and respond to change
  • Basic IT skills
