Job summary

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced senior OT to be seconded to the Band 7 Occupational Therapy Team Leader role at our Broadgreen Hospital Reablement Hub to cover Maternity Leave.

We are looking for a forward thinking, committed and motivated OT capable of working both within a team and autonomously to join our busy and effective Therapy/Nursing Led Reablement Team supporting patients to maintain independence and return home. You will ideally be a flexible, reflective practitioner who enjoys the challenges of adapting to change and developing new services, in addition to supporting others through this process. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels including mediating difficult situations and maintaining/achieving positive working environments to maintain staff wellbeing and performance.

We are looking for a positive, proactive clinician with specialist skills to to increase the profile of Occupational Therapy within the team. You will have your own clinical caseload, providing advanced specialist assessments and interventions to a wide range of patients with multi-pathological conditions including respiratory, cardiac, palliative care, neurology, bariatric, dementia, frailty and/or have had surgical procedures.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 7 Occupational Therapist, you will be responsible for your own complex caseload consisting of patients with a variety of different conditions whilst leading on the supporting/training of team members to develop within this specialist field and to manage their own caseloads.

Good prioritisation, organisational and time management skills will be needed to balance clinical and non-clinical duties. You will be responsible for ensuring the use of advanced effective assessment skills to identify appropriate patients and to formulate, implement and evaluate individualised treatment, reablement and discharge plans.

You will need advanced communication skills to ensure a successful multidisciplinary approach to patient care and will be in regular discussions with patients, carers, MDT colleagues and community partners on therapy plans. You will also be responsible for other non-clinical duties such as leading on team meetings, training/supervision of students, therapy assistant practitioners and junior colleagues.

As a Team lead you will work closely with the other senior Therapy Staff to ensure that there is adequate staffing for the 7 day service and to contribute an integral role in service development. You will also be expected to work closely with the Clinical Leads, Trust leadership and external partners (eg social services) to adapt and adjust the key drivers for the team as it becomes more established to achieve the optimum outcomes for all patients.

To undertake assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations/multiple pathologies using advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to clinically diagnose

Implement evidence based treatment plans with regards to physical, cognitive, perceptual, psychological and social functioning.

Deliver and evaluate treatment programmes according to health care needs using a comprehensive range of treatment options.

To manage waiting lists and prioritise referrals with own team.

To advise, assist and educate band 5 and band 6 OTs and Student OT's.

Occupational Therapists on the management of clinically complex patients.

To be responsible for the supervision of Students and Assistants within own team.

To provide the Clinical Occupational Therapy Specialist/Managers with relevant information for the planning and development of the unit.

To ensure where necessary the provision of staff cover within own clinical team in times of annual leave/sickness etc.

To assist the Managers in achieving the departmental objectives and promoting an open style of management.

To participate in the professional development programme of the Occupational Therapy Department.

Co-ordinate the effective day to day running of own team and ensure effective dissemination of information.

To participate in the recruitment and selection of therapy staff under the guidance of Therapy Manager.
