Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to join our brilliant and well-established Clinical Homecare Pharmacy team as the Senior High cost drug and Homecare Pharmacist.

We are looking for a motivated Pharmacist with experience in one or more areas to help shape the future of the homecare and clinical pharmacy service here at East Lancashire Hospital.

You will be responsible for:

  • the team of pharmacists working within the Clinical Homecare team
  • acting as role model in the field of clinical pharmacy, becoming a subject matter expert, with support from experts, across clinical specialities based on interest and departmental need
  • supporting the development of rational prescribing protocols and treatment pathways to facilitate high cost drug treatment access

Main duties of the job

The post holder will

  • Be a member of the homecare team, which provides a high-quality service to the Trust. Along with all pharmacy staff, the aim is to promote the safe, effective and economical use of medicines in patients being cared for by the Trust
  • Manage the development of homecare pharmacy services throughout the Trust, developing and delivering the homecare strategy ensuring robust clinical governance systems in place
  • Act as the professional pharmacy lead for implementing the use of biosimilar medicines, making the best use of NHS resources and ensuring that high standards of governance are maintained
  • Proactively lead on the delivery of strategies to support the financial processes relating to treatments such as biologic, biosimilar and other high cost drugs in line with local and national objectives ensuring that savings on high cost drugs are generated and optimised
  • Work closely with other senior staff in the department to ensure the delivery of an integrated pharmacy service
  • Assist the Clinical Services Lead Pharmacist in the provision of clinical training and supervision of pharmacy staff
  • Participate in relevant local, regional and national sector wide forums for clinical pharmacy
  • Audit, monitor and develop medicines management in line with Pharmacy Directorate strategy and objectives

Qualifications

Essential

  • MPharm Degree (4 years) or equivalent Member GPhC
  • Member of GPhC
  • Post Graduate clinical diploma

Desirable

  • postgraduate leadership or management qualification
  • Independent prescribing qualification
