Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic dietitian with energy and drive, to join our team to cover a maternity leave.

We are part of the largest NHS acute trust in England, with one of the busiest Paediatric Services in London. We have 33 Paediatric Dietitians (26.9 WTE) who work across 4 sites and provide tertiary paediatric services including Surgery, Cystic Fibrosis, Gastroenterology, Allergy, Neonatology, Neurology, Diabetes and PICU. We have a diverse cultural and ethnic population and cover both affluent as well as socially-deprived areas.

You will work as an integral member of these teams. For Neonates there is also physiotherapy and SLT provision. MDT working is vital in both teams. The inpatient workload in the Coborn Unit is predominantly for Anorexia Nervosa. We are looking for someone who would thrive at the challenge of working in these busy settings developing robust evidence-based policies, providing education and excellent clinical care. You will manage and supervise a full-time band 6 Paediatric Dietitian and a 0.2 WTE band 5 Paediatric Dietitian who cover the general paediatric caseload and clinics at Newham University Hospital.

You will ideally have good clinical dietetic experience. Paediatric acute experience is essential, experience working with eating disorders and within a neonatal unit is desirable. Paediatric Modules are desirable but not essential.

Main duties of the job

To work within the multidisciplinary team, to provide highly specialised dietetic advice to children and their families and carers, predominantly within the Neonatal Unit and the Coborn inpatient mental health unit;

To lead and manage the Paediatric inpatient and outpatient Dietetic service at Newham University Hospital

To undertake outpatient clinics in these areas;

The post holder would undertake research and audit on a regular basis to ensure that practice is evidence based.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • oBSc Nutrition & Dietetics or relevant postgraduate qualification.
  • oQualification in Paediatrics or evidence of significant experience
  • oHCPC Registered

Desirable

  • oNeonatal Modules 2 and 5 or equivalent knowledge/skills
  • oTeaching qualification

Experience

Essential

  • oSignificant experience working in Nutrition and Dietetics, with good experience within paediatrics including some experience on a neonatal unit
  • oExperience of delivering undergraduate student supervision and clinical education at graduate standard in an area of speciality
  • oExperience of supervising junior members of clinical staff

Desirable

  • oExperience of working within a level 1 or 2 Neonatal unit

Knowledge

Essential

  • oUnderstanding of team dynamics and experience of working within a team
  • oIn-depth knowledge in nutrition support in paediatrics/neonates
  • oKnowledge of tube feeding and home enteral feeding discharges
