Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic, ambitious Sonographer to join its highly motivated Radiology Team at The Royal Bolton Hospital and fulfil the role of an Ultrasound Clinical Tutor.

The Person

Reporting directly to the Lead Sonographer, you will be independently responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of the practical aspect of the University courses implemented within the department. You will also be a senior member of the ultrasound team with responsibility for coordinating and delivering specialist clinical training and education to the sonographers, midwife ultrasound practitioners (MUP's) and ultrasound trainees. Alongside training and educational responsibilities, you will be responsible carrying out and reporting on specialised ultrasound examinations to a high standard and in a professional manner. Holding a post graduate ultrasound qualification you will have excellent clinical skills, and experience. In addition to qualifications in either general medical, obstetric and gynaecological scanning, it would be advantageous to have experience across a wide range of examinations.

In order to apply for this post you must be an experienced sonographer and possess PGC/D in Medical Ultrasound. Registration on the voluntary SCoR sonographer or HCPC or NMC registration is also expected.

Main duties of the job

The Role

You will work closely with the sonography team, senior colleagues and radiologists across the Trust, to develop and maximise training and education within the ultrasound service with a focus on the ultrasound trainees within the department. You will ensure a patient focused, safe, effective and efficient service that is able to meet the current and future needs of the Trust and population it serves.

Alongside training and education, you will have a key role in Departmental, Governance and Multi-disciplinary Team meetings and contribute to patient databases.

Job responsibilities

The Radiology Department is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Sonographer to add to our dynamic, multi-professional team as an ultrasound clinical tutor. We offer a wide range of Ultrasound Services including Obstetrics, Gynaecology, MSK, General Abdominal and a daytime A&E service as well as provision at our satellite sites at Bolton One and Ingleside.

The Radiology Department has a managed equipment contract with Siemens resulting in a rolling five year equipment replacement plan.As a department, we are committed to education and are proactive in encouraging and supporting Continuing Professional Development and audit. We participate in teaching and learning at postgraduate level for Sonographers and other medical professions. We are participating in several active research projects; we have a Sonographer led HyCoSy service and have an innovative Emergency Department ultrasound service.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc or DCR Diagnostic Radiography / BSc in Midwifery / relevant undergraduate equivalent
  • PgC / PgD in Medical Ultrasound (CASE accredited)
  • Registered with HCPC / NMC (or equivalent)
  • FMF Certification in Nuchal Translucency scanning

Desirable

  • Post graduate qualifications e.g. MSc
  • Additional modular qualifications i.e. MSK, Elastography, HyCoSy, neonatal hips
  • Involvement with training sonographers and university processes

Experience

Essential

  • Hold university Mentor status
  • Experience training, teaching, education and mentoring
  • NHS scanning and report writing

Desirable

  • Multi-modality knowledge
  • Developments within ultrasound training

Knowledge

Essential

  • Medical Conditions and their management/treatment
  • Clinical and information governance.
  • Good Subject knowledge in qualified modules.
