This is a replacement Consultant post. The remit of the post holder will be to work within the multi-disciplinary team providing and further developing care for patients and to provide and develop neonatal services to the Trust's neonatal patients. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the Care Group while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.
Main duties of the job
The post will be based at the Princess Royal University Hospital with clinical attending weeks at Denmark Hill and the proposed Job Plan (10 PAs) is attached. This is subject to review within 3 months of the post holder commencing in post.
The On-Call commitment is for a 1:6.5 rota, which is classed as Category A. There is a commitment to undertake routine job planned work on Saturdays or Sundays as part of the total job planned PAs.

Job responsibilities
All employees are expected to undertake work on any of the Trusts sites as required by the service. As a senior employee of the Trust, you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trusts patients. Integral to these responsibilities are the following:
The provision of a first-class clinical service
Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
Sustaining and developing teaching and research in conjunction with Kings College London / KHP
Undertaking all work in accordance with the Trusts procedures and operating policies
Conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trusts service plans
Maintaining the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Care Group or the Trust

Registration
Essential
- Full Registration with GMC
- Name on GMC Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment
- On the day of interview applicants must be within 6 months of CCT or must have fully completed CESR application and be fully registered on the GMC Specialist Register. Any applications not meeting these criteria will not be considered.
Qualifications and Higher Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent
- MRCPCH or equivalent
Desirable
- Neonatal special interest or SPIN module qualification, Other higher degree or diploma
Training and Experience
Essential
- A minimum of six years postgraduate experience. Two of the years must have been spent in appropriate neonatal training posts in neonatal intensive care units (level 3) within the UK at a higher specialist level
- NLS Provider
- Evidenced Level 3 safeguarding training
Desirable
- Current certificate as NLS, APLS or PALS instructor
Management and Leadership
Essential
- Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams
Desirable
- Management course and/or qualification
Audit and Quality Improvement
Essential
- Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit. Must have undertaken and completed audit projects.
Desirable
Research and Publications
Essential
- Experience of clinical research. Publication of relevant review articles or case reports.
Desirable
- GCP training, Evidence of recruitment into trials , Publication of relevant review articles or case reports
Teaching
Essential
- Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and exam preparation.
