Job summary
The Department of Oral Medicine is seeking fixed term 12 months full time (10 PAs) Locum Specialty Dentist to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team. The department is currently involved in many exciting initiatives and is looking for an individual with the appropriate skills to complement our team and to help keep our service at the forefront of clinical and academic excellence.
Main duties of the job
The post holder must:
- Be dentally qualified and maintain GDC registration
- Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post
- Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation and reference to senior staff.
- Ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care programmed activities
- Ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views

Job responsibilities
The post holders will be expected to:
- Participate in clinical and other service activities with the objective of ensuring a high standard of patient care
- Contribute to the development and management of quality improvement projects and clinical audit within the department
- Contribute to the clinical supervision of undergraduates and assist in the delivery of courses throughout the BDS programme
- Contribute to departmental clinical research
Provision of High Quality Care to Patients
The post holder must:

Research, Teaching and Training
The post holder must:
- Provide high quality teaching to dental undergraduates and members of other health care professions
- Collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trusts translational research portfolio, at all times meeting the full requirements of Research Governance
Clinical Governance
The post holder must:
- Participate in clinical audit, incident reporting and analysis and to ensure resulting actions are implemented
- Participate in ensuring new guidelines are implemented and monitored in the specialty areas
- All post holders have a responsibility to report risks such as clinical and non-clinical accidents or incidents promptly.
- Keep fully informed of best practice in the specialty areas
- Role model good practice for infection control to all members of the multidisciplinary team
- All medical and dental staff are required to undertake annual appraisal.

Qualifications / Education
Essential
- Holding or eligible for full registration with the General Dental Council (GDC) of the UK
Desirable
- Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, or equivalent

- Clinical experience in Oral Medicine and Chronic Orofacial Pain management ( at least 1 year)

- Proficiency in oral mucosal soft tissue surgery
- Flexible approach to service delivery and committed approach to service development.
Audit Management & IT
Essential
- Experience in clinical audit and quality improvement in the NHS
- Proficient IT skills in order to engage in electronic clinical systems

Research. Teaching Skill & Experience
Essential
- Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior dental staff utilising a wide variety of teaching methods
- Understanding of the principles and application of clinical research, including understanding and knowledge of research ethics
- Ability to appraise scientific literature critically
Desirable
- Formal teaching qualification to level of Post-graduate Certificate in Academic Practice, (FHEA) or higher.
