Due to a last minute retraction of an agreement to join our team, we are re-advertising this exciting role.

Wimbledon Village Surgery are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, conscientious Primary Care Nurse to join our friendly, experienced team.

The successful candidate will deliver evidence based practice for patients with long-term conditions and management and be competent in all treatment room skills. This will include, cervical cytology, wound care, blood pressure management and general Practice Nurse skills - all in linewith the practice protocols.

Main duties of the job

Providing assessment, screening treatment services and health education advice:

  • Dietary advice
  • Blood pressure checks
  • Urinalysis
  • Health screening
  • Ear syringing
  • Dressings
  • ECG
  • Routine injections
  • Contraception
  • Minor injuries
  • Routine immunisations and vaccinations
  • Removal of sutures / clips
  • Baby immunisations
  • First registration checks / health surveillance / general health advice
  • Assisting with minor procedures in the treatment room
  • Provide general and specific health screenings to the practice patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to other members of the primary and secondary health care team as necessary

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will work autonomously alongside other nursing staff to ensure adequate primary care nursing cover within the practice at all times. They will be expected to adhere to current practice policies and procedures and to other local and national guidelines as appropriate in order to provide high quality patient care.

Clinical Care

To undertake relevant procedures as appropriate to patient need, including (but not exclusively):

Wound management and dressings

Assisting with minor operations

Undertaking cervical smears

Administering immunisations (including childhood immunisations) and other injections

Blood pressure monitoring

Management of selected chronic conditions according to templates and protocols

Providing effective health promotion advice and education to patients and their families including routine well-person and new patient health checks

Giving contraceptive advice

Providing advice and immunisations for patients intending to travel abroad

Undertaking ECGs and other investigations

To arrange follow-up of individual patients as dictated by clinical need, either in person or by telephone.

To seek advice on the management of patients from other clinical staff as required.

Record Keeping

To maintain clear, accurate, legible and contemporaneous records all clinical encounters using the clinical computer system.

To enter coded clinical data in accordance with the practice data entry policy, using templates when required.

Management

To assist in ensuring that the treatment and consulting rooms are adequately stocked with appropriate clinical equipment maintained in good working order.

To assist in the organisation and implementation of health campaigns and programmes within the practice, including updating waiting room displays and patient information resources.

Communication

To communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, carers, relatives, members of the primary healthcare team, and relevant outside agencies.

To work as part of the practice team, attending team meetings when required within contracted hours.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC Registered General Nurse
  • Chronic Disease Qualifications in Family Planning, Diabetes or COPD
  • Cervical cytology, Injections, High vaginal swabs, Compression bandaging, Wound care, Phlebotomy and ECG
  • Provide the full range of nursing services, including measurement, blood pressure measurement, urinalysis, health checks, suture removal, etc
  • Training in any missing skills will be discussed if successfully

Desirable

  • Diploma level achievement in Diabetes or COPD
  • Cytology Qualification
  • Experience in COPD and/or Diabetes
  • Doppler
  • Chronic disease annual health check / NHS health check
  • Childhood immunisations , Adult vaccinations and travel health
