Job summary

We are delighted to invite applications for a 6-12 month fixed term post as a Junior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. The post can commence in March 2024 or August/September 2024.

Our Junior Clinical Fellow post is intended to provide between 6 to 12 months of Paediatric Emergency Medicine in a major trauma centre. It is aimed at early to mid-stage Emergency Medicine or Paediatric trainees (ST1-3 equivalent), or trainees undertaking an 'FY3' Year between Foundation Training and Specialty Training, looking to gain further experience in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

Our Junior Clinical Fellow post is designed to enable the post-holder to start/consolidate PEM skills in the well-supported environment of a friendly Paediatric Emergency Department, while getting the bonus of being in a major trauma centre with exposure to a huge range of expertise and support.

The successful candidate will join a highly motivated, consultant led team delivering high quality emergency care to East London. The department receives a full range of emergencies from the local area in addition to major trauma from North East London and Essex with a total of 180,000 patients seen each year including 40,000 paediatric patients.

Main duties of the job

1. Communicate effectively with patients, and treat patients and colleagues with compassion and respect at all times.

2. Deliver safe, and effective clinical care seeing patients within a personal case load seeking

support, instruction, and advice from senior clinical team members where required.

3. Support delivery of the emergency department's key performance standards through

motivated adherence to key standards and by seeking support and advice from within the

wider emergency care team when required.

4. Write clear, concise and contemporaneous patient focused medical records.

5. Practice with honesty and integrity and in full compliance with the GMC standards for good clinical practice.

6. Actively participate in and support the department's clinical research activity.

7. Actively participate in the department's education and training program both in receiving

and delivering education and training.

8. Actively participate in the departmental, hospital and trust wide clinical governance and

patient safety activities.

9. Promote, and actively participate in the departments health and well-being at work

programs.

10. Collaborate with all members of the emergency department team and staff from other

Departments.

11. Participate in major incident clinical cascade. Deliver as able extra duties in the event of a major incident.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent degree
  • Full GMC registration

Desirable

  • Up-to-date APLS certificate
  • MCEM, MRCPCH or equivalent
  • Other postgraduate degree

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 2 years of post-graduate clinical experience including F1 and F2 years or equivalent

Desirable

  • Minimum 4 months of experience in either paediatrics or emergency medicine

Knowledge

Essential

  • Ethos of lifelong learning and a desire to continually gain and improve knowledge and skills

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching a range of audiences
  • Evidence of participation in clinical governance, quality improvement, or research activity

Skills
