Job summary

This is a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic Physiotherapy pre-registration student who is interested in research to work in a vibrant research environment. The successful candidates will work closely with Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust clinical academics on a current research project and gain insight into the research processes and conduct of health-related research. There will also be the opportunity to spend time at University College London gaining practical experience of 3D printing for health research.

Dates

The placement will commence on 22nd July 2024 for 5 weeks with a working week of 37.5 hours. Flexible working requests will be considered.

Funding

A tax free stipend of £2,466 will be paid on 23rd August 2024.

A travel allowance of up to £447 will be paid on 23rd August 2024.

Interview

Short listed candidates will be invited to attend an interview in June 2024. We will provide the option of an online interview for those unable to attend face to face. If you are shortlisted and unable to attend the scheduled interview date we will provide an alternative mutually convenient date.

They will develop their research skills and reflect upon their learning through didactic learning opportunities, clinical supervision, application of practical research skills and experience of dissemination skills. Job description

Job responsibilities

1. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES Under supervision to provide assessment, treatment and ongoing management of patients participating in a clinical research trial. To be able to independently provide very brief advice on lifestyle advice, including physical activity, smoking cessation and weight management.

2. RESPONSIBILITY FOR PATIENTS Ensuring all research enquiries are effectively managed by being successfully resolved or escalated to the Trial Coordinator within a prompt timescale Ensuring all relevant people are informed and an appropriate record is maintained Liaising and effectively communicating at all levels using written, oral and electronic methods Using tact and sensitivity to deal with difficult issues. Ensure that research participants are booked appropriately following recruitment into a clinical trial. To develop an appropriate, therapeutic relationship with patients built on good customer relations, an appreciation of cultural diversity and improving the patient experience. To clearly document and communicate any interventions in the relevant patient records and sign in accordance with local policy. To recognise and report changes in priorities of patient care and takes a proactive approach to responding to and reporting needs. Collate clinical data and check records for completeness, notifying the Service Manager immediately of any potential breaches, omissions or inconsistencies.

3. RESPONSIBILITY FOR POLICY AND SERVICE DEVELOPMENT Participate and contribute to service improvement initiatives. This may require undertaking project work as directed, including obtaining information from the Internet or other sources and collating and reporting data in order to produce reports and spreadsheets.

4. RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL AND PHYSICAL RESOURCES Manual handling will include the carrying of paperwork, equipment and files within the office and clincial environment; this may be required on a daily basis. To be aware of and ensure that all office and research resources are used efficiently.

5. RESPONSIBILITY FOR LEADING AND MANAGING Report immediately to the screening management team any other observed errors, omissions, potential breaches or deviation from the agreed quality protocols.

6. RESPONSIBILITY FOR INFORMATION RESOURCES Establish an effective network with all team members and other disciplines within the service. To have experience working with complex NHS computer systems Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office. To ensure accuracy and data integrity of statistical data.

7. RESPONSIBILITY FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT Undertake and keep up to date with ICH GCP training. Have awareness of the research cycle Under supervision, be able to collect research data both quantitative and qualitative Under supervision, be able to analyse data Reflect upon learning through didactic learning opportunities, clinical supervision, application of practical research skills and experience of dissemination skills Understand the role of research and experience the day-to-day life of clinical academics gaining practical experience of 3D printing for health research
