We have an exciting opportunity for an eager and experienced haemato-oncology Pharmacist to lead our haemato-oncology team after a recent promotion.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre provides excellent cancer care to patients in the North West (including North Wales and the Isle of Man). We have 3 site locations; the central Liverpool site and hub sites in the Wirral and Aintree. Haematology inpatient services, including 2 wards, bone marrow transplant service and the regional Teenage and Young Adult unit (supported by the Teenage Cancer Trust) are located at our Liverpool site.It is an exciting time for The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, having recently expanded our regional haemato-oncology footprint to our Clatterbridge-Aintree site. We are expanding our ATIMP profile are in the process of introducing CAR-T therapy. The haemato-oncology clinical service includes inpatient and outpatient chemotherapy for patients with a variety of haemto-oncology conditions including bone marrow transplant, as well as pharmacist-led prescribing clinics for patients with myeloproliferative disorders, lymphoma and myeloma.

You will liaise with aseptic services, medicines safety and medicines optimisation leads regarding haemato-oncology matters and train junior and rotational pharmacists when required.

Working pattern will be 37.5 hours per week which includes weekends. Contribution to the Bank holiday and on call rota will be part of the post.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will work with the Associate Director Pharmacy - Clinical Services, Director of Pharmacy, Principal Pharmacist - Solid Tumour and Technicians as well as medical and nursing colleagues to drive the pharmacy clinical services Trustwide.

  • Leads and is responsible for the delivery and development of all aspects of the solid tumour pharmacy across all wards, ambulatory and outpatient departments within The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.
  • Interprets national and local agendas, and refocusing medicines clinical governance plans to deliver safe an effective Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation services to patients under the care of The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.
  • Develop education and training materials including reports relating to the management of medicines in the Trust and undertake research and audit to support innovative practice and sustain robust medicines management systems and processes.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of chemotherapy electronic prescribing to the haemato-oncology service
  • Support the development of expansion of the haematology clinical trials and ATIMP portfolio
  • Provides medicines optimisation services including dispensary duties, ward cover and aseptic release cover when required
  • Acts as a non-medical prescriber to support to support the chemotherapy day units and pharmacist-led prescribing clinics (there is the opportunity to undertake the independent prescribing course in post, if not already completed)

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • GPhC registration as a pharmacist
  • MSc/Diploma pharmacy practice
  • MPharm or equivalent

Desirable

  • Registered non-medical prescriber
  • Postgraduate leadership qualification
  • Royal Pharmaceutical Society membership

Experience

Essential

  • Experience delivering education and training, and providing supervision to support the development of multidisciplinary team
  • Recent (in last 2 years) evidence of delivering efficiencies in the NHS
  • Experience of working across organisational boundaries and managing complex stakeholder relationships
  • Experience of setting and delivering objectives

Desirable

  • Non- Medical prescribing experience

Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of working in heamato-oncology pharmacy
  • Financial forecasting and managing drug expenditure to include contribution to delivering cost improvement programmes
  • Significant experience of leading and managing change projects to improve services
  • Experience of contributing to the delivery of medication governance and medication safety
