It is an exciting time to join our innovative pharmacy department as we develop our service to the acute medicine business units across UHDB. We are looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Pharmacist to lead our well respected acute medicine pharmacy team that provides high quality pharmaceutical care to our patients.

You will work closely with other clinical leads in the pharmacy and with divisional senior medical, nursing and management staff to ensure all pharmaceutical aspects within acute medicine business units are met.

Main duties of the job

  • To lead, deliver, develop and evaluate pharmacy services to acute medicine services across all sites within UHDB in accordance with national priorities and local objectives.
  • To ensure that medicines are used safely and effectively in acute medicine business units (BAMBU & DAMBU).
  • To lead the clinical pharmacy team in acute medicine, acting as a role model and developing the team in line with the needs of the service
  • Facilitate the cost effective use of medicines by providing regular reports to the Divisional/business unit management and consultant team.
  • Deputise for the Deputy Chief Pharmacist - Clinical as required
  • Maintain and develop policies and procedures covering all aspects of the pharmacy service to the Division. This includes administrative, clinical, technical and training information and Standard Operating Procedures sufficient to describe the functions of the Pharmacy Service
  • Where appropriately trained and qualified the post holder will practice as an independent pharmacist prescriber in line with their competencies, the Trust Non- Medical Prescribing Policy and an agreed scope of practice to meet the local needs of patients, health care professionals and the Trust.

Person Specification

Communication and relationship skills

Essential

  • Ability to influence senior & junior healthcare staff (pharmacy, medical (including consultants), nursing staff and managers)
  • Manages complex and sensitive information relevant to post

Analytical and judgemental skills

Essential

  • Proven ability to define strategic ambitions and deliver changes to service delivery in line with this
  • Manage complex and multi-faceted problems
  • Able to evaluate best practice and apply research findings to optimise the use of medicines.

Knowledge, training and experience

Essential

  • GPhC registration as Pharmacist
  • Post registration masters degree level qualification (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • Expert clinical pharmacist within clinical speciality. Wide-ranging clinical pharmacy experience and expert knowledge
  • Proven line management experience

Desirable

  • Knowledge and understanding of NHS policy and of key changes in the NHS
  • Membership of other professional bodies (e.g. RPS)

Planning and organisational skills

Essential

  • Proven track record of managing and developing services
  • Ability to meet deadlines and pay attention to detail

Desirable

  • Experience/ financial management skills and business planning
